Profit Share settled in fourth place from his inside barrier (1), racing a bit keenly in stages due to the very moderate tempo. He moved up nicely coming to the 300m, took the lead at the 150m and drew away to win decisively by two lengths. The winner’s stablemate Stratum Star raced in fifth place, one off the rails, switched out on straightening and made good ground in the sprint home to finish a good second. Merion was wide early and then settled outside the leader. They travelled along at a very steady pace, he got to a narrow lead at the 300m and then battled on for a sound first-up third. Chivalry raced in sixth place, one off the rails. He fanned deep on turning for home and made ground, without threatening to finish a sound first-up (3 lengths) fourth being disadvantaged by the very moderate early tempo. The favourite Onerous led the field, setting a steady pace but disappointed over the closing stages and finished (4.8 lengths) fifth after seeming to have every chance. Godolphin’s Hauraki was slowly away, settled well in seventh place on the rails. He made ground between runners in the straight to finish (4.9 lengths) sixth, putting up quite a good effort considering the sprint-home circumstances of the race.
