The Irish-bred five-year-old Saghann, who had raced three times in France before being imported by the Chris Waller stable, scored his first win here at his seventh start in this country. He went to the lead and ran along with a big lead most of the way in the small five-horse field. He then held on in the straight to win by three quarters of a length from his stablemate Grand Marshal, who came from third at the turn to finish second without really looking a threat to the winner. *ANZ
