Labdien put up a good effort to win on debut. She settled in last place in the six-horse field and commenced to move up (wide) nearing the home turn. She went to the centre of the track at the 200m and ran on well to grab a narrow but smart win. The well-supported Magic Diamond went straight to the front, looked the winner when she raced clear on passing the 300m but was grabbed on the post for second. Pioneering was fifth to the home turn, went to the rails on straightening and kept fighting to finish a close-up third.
