Kris Lees-trained colt Gem Song scored a good win here, racing on debut. He began well and settled well outside the leader (Glamour Cruise). He got the better of that runner and went to the front at the 200m and then fought back gamely to score narrowly but in promising style. The Godolphin-raced filly Colombina settled near the tail of the ten-horse field, saved ground along the inner at the home turn, went to third at the 200m and kept making ground for second, beaten a long head in a sound effort at her third start. Chris Waller-trained colt Altair raced in fourth place, on the rails, got into clear running on straightening, challenged at the 200m and kept battling on quite well for third at his second race start.
