The G3 2yo event over 1200m saw a very authoritative win by the colt Manolo Blahniq and he will start a warm favourite for the Karaka Millions later this month. The track at Ellerslie was sludgy and in places a holding eyesore and raced very biased towards on pacers, so was not a fair racing surface at all. Manolo Blahniq set the pace and strode clear the run home never looking like getting beaten and would have scored regardless of the footing. He won by three and a half lengths in 1:11.91 and that compared well to the G1 Railway held later in the day that clocked 1.11.03. Showmethemoneyhoney ran home well for second and it was the first race clockwise for the visiting maiden filly so she will also be next seen in the Karaka Millions. Another maiden filly in Glass Slipper ran on well from the rear for third despite hanging out the closing 200m. She is sure to have some very over-excited owners as the stake money earned for third is enough to get her into the Karaka Millions final field as of now and hard to see what can force Cinderella out of the big bucks ball. Tennessee did well after a slow start to finish fourth albeit distant as she went around wide across the top before becoming anchored in the footing. Majestic Champion was not too bad the final stages but the rest were well beaten and either outclassed or more likely never went a yard in the Ellerslie gruel. Manolo Blahniq fittingly beat Showmethemoneyhoney as they are expensive shoes indeed and cost more than a Glass Slipper too.
