Phoenix Park 2yo Classic (G3)

Age: 2yo Type: OPEN

The G3 juvenile event was solidly enough run and saw the filly Magic Dancer bolt in for Team Rogerson, who also had the favourite in the race Halleloojah that flopped badly. Magic Dancer won her debut on a bog so is showing versatility and gives her sire Rip Van Winkle a boost in New Zealand. She was sitting second and letting her male stablemate Halleloojah set the pace but when another rival challenged for the lead across the top her rider had no choice but to attack as well. The filly was in between the leading trio and then shot clear at the 200m to defeat the one that attacked three-wide for the front and forced her hand in Our Rokkii. Girlsarebackintown ran on late for third after settling down in the rear trio and should win a race this season. Enshrine also found the line late after being tightened early and settling back and she should pay a dividend soon after finishing fourth in all her starts so far. The possible G1 juvenile player in the two races held at this level in a New Zealand a season only looks like being Magic Dancer from this field. She has the added plus of being able to handle wet ground and come the autumn the tracks are likely to be rain-affected.
