The way the filly Platinum Witness won her first race in this after a strong of stakes placings and solid efforts it looks like she can be a threat in the G1 1000 Guineas here in a few weeks. She did not settle so far back being at a mile today and then was breathtaking when bursting clear of her rivals inside the final 200m. The Australian bred daughter of California Dane can go on dry or wet ground and now is mile proven so she ticks a lot of boxes for the Riccarton feature where she will likely meet the current hotpot O’Marilyn. She clocked 1:36.95 and a Ratings 65 stablemate winner in Edensong ran 1:36.49 or almost three lengths faster. The winner of the last event Likeapins won the ratings 85 in 1:35.78 or seven lengths superior. Platinum Witness will need to run much better time but can and will as he had panels over the opposition here. The runner up Consensus, another filly, ran on strongly as usual for second and she would have liked a stronger early clip and overall time. She will not be out of place in the G1 1000 Guineas ridden cold. The on pacer male Eye Raced Ninety battled on for third and the one he shared the lead with Sealed By A Dance wilted to finish fifth. Purcentage split them from a handy spot the outer and may need more rain-affected footing to stretch out fully. Werther was a flop and like his stablemates earlier on at the meeting all went poorly so they may have had a bad trip down. The winner Platinum Witness is a G1 player this season and the runner up Consensus is thriving down in the South island since being sent down early by her trainer Leo Molloy. The third finisher Eye Raced Ninety will likely tackle the G1 2000 Guineas next at Riccarton.
