The track today with the rail out 8m to the 1000m and 10m out to the winning post saw manmade bias on display towards those that raced in or near the lead. The winners of the eight-race card and where they turned for home in order were seventh (two lengths off lead), co-leader outer, sixth (three lengths off lead), led, second outer, led, fourth and fifth (two lengths off lead). It was near impossible to come from too far back turning in with the rail out so far as manmade bias almost always causes when the width of a track is reduced so substantially. This Listed 3yo mile answered a few pecking order questions but also left open many too as this was a sedate run contest on a manmade biased track. The Chosen One remained undefeated when winning this easily in the tepid time of 1:37.63 on a Dead4 track but the victory was better than those facts show. The colt was crowded at the start and last away at the jump so had to be booted through the field wide early to get up onto the pace and then took the front after 300m. He then got some cheap sectionals, which is important as doubtful that stronger opposition would afford him that luxury, and then he kicked the run home at the 300m to be clear at the 150m. The Chosen One is now two-for-two and able to win a Listed event at his second start plus is proven now at the mile, so lots of scope ticks for the colt towards a date with destiny in the G1 2000 Guineas on November 10. In A Twinkling ran on solidly from sitting seventh wide mostly albeit with cover and the Australian bred gelding also showed he ran out the mile well but was over two and a quarter lengths behind the winner at the line. He was in a bumping dual with a rival wide out near the home turn and that cannot have helped either party to balance up and concentrate. Mohaka ran on gamely for third and this still maiden filly probably puts this race into proper perspective. She was before today a distant second in a maiden and before that a Listed third behind two runners that have flopped big time since and are wet trackers only. The filly is versatile regarding footing and showed she runs the mile so will against her own sex give it a shot and it is worth noting on debut was a close third to the now favourite for the race in Xpression even though Melt has better formlines. Fire Show was third at G3 prior to today behind Xpression and could only run fourth at Listed grade today but that masks the fact he lost his place early and ended up eighth surrounded then tenth across the top. The gelding came through the run home and reached fourth at the 200m but in a sprint home was always up against it though he almost ran the same final 600m as the winner to give some perspective of his task. Dreamtesta was wide working early and then went up second the outer before being left standing at the 200m and ended up fifth beaten almost six lengths. Emily Margaret disappointed and there is a mile query on her now but she may be okay back too her own sex. She was away ordinary and then got booted up wide near the early pace before being third then fourth the outer only to battle away the run home for sixth beaten over six lengths. Miss Curious, a maiden filly, had a horror run going up third and four-wide early and was fifth and as deep across the top so the slow pace helped her cause before the overland pain was felt. The fact she never dropped right out is commendable indeed and to be beaten just over six and a half lengths actually shamed several of her rivals that never covered anywhere near as much extra ground. Casual Winks was another runner four-wide in the running but back and having some cover then she found herself farcically five-wide across the top. Then to make matters worse she and then got into a bumping dual with the eventual runner up when even wider near the home turn, so her eighth beaten less than seven lengths was a lot better than it can ever read. The last four home were all maidens with Aristotle, Ekstrememiss and Laphroaig all winners in waiting back to their proper grade. Sabrage was outclassed all the way and a distant detached last at the line. This was not that strong a field overall but will be a rich source of future winners with so many maidens involved. The Chosen One is untapped and superior to these by a margin but he will strike some far better colts and geldings in two weeks in the G1 2000 Guineas. To be fair to the colt though he keeps stepping up and is still on an upward trajectory and will run the mile with some of his rivals yet to do so. He has that name of greatness and though yet to run anywhere near standard time or on a dry track the colt has that sense of big stage presence.
