Sea King was awesome in victory and he can win any steeplechase he contests this winter and that includes in Australia too. It was his thirteenth win today from forty-five starts and ten of these have come over the fences (nine as a hurdler and one as steeplechaser). He can stay and be ridden cold or go up and apply some pressure so gives his rider many options every outing. Carinya is a steeplechasing find with the mare having unlimited stamina and can get through the deepest footing too so has Grand National and/or Great Northern written all over her. She ran a game second but the winner was too sharp the run home though once the distances get longer the mare will come into her own. A big gap back to third and a plugging posse of jumpers that have been around for a while and most will earn their keep this winter. Racquetor hit a fence at the 1250m with everything but the kitchen sink so forgive him dropping away across the top. The time of this was only fractionally faster than the maiden steeplechase winner It’s A Message one race prior, which augurs well for that horse to clean up this winter over the bigger fences.
