Bp2go Alco Mosgiel Stakes (LR)

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

The Listed 1200m feature went to the strongly built Australian bred 4yo mare Miss Seton Sands in 1:09.37. She was handy on the inner before working off turning in then surged up two-off at the 200m to take the front soon after and won well by almost a length. It was her sixth win in twelve starts so her striking rate is very good indeed. Today was her second Listed success and goes with a G3 placing and two Listed placings as well. Querer was a game second after showing speed to lead then getting headed across the top. She is another 4yo mare plus today was recording a third Listed placing in her career so far. Drumregal ran on very well for third just ahead of an also very stout closer from the back in Signify. The Diamond One wilted late to fifth after being third with 50m to go and is a clear improver. The pace was kept torrid by Super Trouper taking a clear lead across the top before being run over the final 150m. Red Dirt Girl was not too bad considering she was back and wide early on while El Chico was disappointing but the weight told on him. Sucre was poor once again while Rivertaine Coup did nothing either. The winner Miss Seton Sands may tackle the highest grade sprinting late next month in the G1 Telegraph under set weights and penalties at Trentham. Signify and The Diamond One are the two next time out that can win with the former capable of scoring at stakes level for the first time and the latter already has done so. In a good sign for the South Island sprinting ranks the first, second and fourth runners home were are 4yo gallopers.
