Young weighing up options with talented Skylord

Trainer-driver Jocelyn Young has a couple of options to consider with talented three-year-old Skylord, following his stylish win at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

In the absence of some of the best three-year-olds in the state, Skylord was far too good in the Westsired (2130m) for the colts and geldings.

The son of Fly Like An Eagle bullied his way to the front in the early stages of the $30,000 event and went on to score a comfortable 12.1m win.

Jocelyn Young said she was thrilled with how professional Skylord was on Friday.

"He had to work a lot harder than I would've hoped early," Young told TABradio.

"He was doing it all within himself.

"The way he accelerated around them when I asked him.

"The way he pulled away towards the finish in a quick last quarter on a track that was rain affected, with his plugs in, it was really impressive."

Skylord has built up a formidable record of seven wins and five placings from 13 starts, including placings in the Golden Slipper and Westbred Classic last year.

The colt is set to be one of the key contenders in his three-year-old Westbred Classic (2130m) and WA Derby (2536m) on September 8 and November 3 respectively.

Young said she had to weigh up how to get her stable star to those races.

"He's only had three starts back after a spell," she said.

"It does look like most of the features are in September, October and November.

"If I was going to give him a break then it would need to be soon.

"He's only just coming up, so I don't think I will turn him out at this moment."
