Belles Whisper delivers Clements his '100th'

Belles Whisper broke through for her maiden win on Wednesday at Bunbury, but the victory also delivered trainer Brian Clemens his 100th training win since 1991.

The two-year-old daughter of local stallion Advance Attack has been knocking at the door her last two attempts, but it was career start number three that proved fruitful, with the Bunbury based filly coming out on top over the $2 favourite in Seaside Rose, with Belles Whisper claiming first prize by 2m on the line in 1:57:5 over the 1609m sprint trip at Donaldson Park.

"I think she's got a real good future. I honestly thought she would win first up, that was my thoughts, and she got beaten a nose,"

"All three runs have been good and the way she she's been working, I thought she could win, but when you think they can win they usually find a way to get beaten."

"she works like a good horse, at the moment she's either going to have one more run at Bunbury next Tuesday and if that doesn't hold up I'll probably be happy because I'll turn her out for a fortnight, or she's going good, and I'll hopefully bring her back for the better races in September."

Not eligible for the Diamond classic in August, Brian Clemens made mention that it was a blessing as he would have been tempted to keep her going this preparation, and with the youngster already 18 weeks into this preparation, he believes she's ready for a short freshen up.

"She's not racing like she needs a spell, but I have to give her one somewhere along the track and if I don't do it soon, I won't have her back for the $225,000 WestBred Classic race,

"She's probably not good enough, but who knows,

"If you've got one that can run a little bit, you might as well give them a chance of getting there."

74-year-old Clemens is the third generation of his family involved in harness racing and with his daughter Simone heavily invested in the industry, as well as his grand-daughter Brooke who races regularly in the South West Pony Trots with her pony Ultimate Blaze, the Clemens/Strachan family is here to stay.

"She's the next generation and her daughter Brooke, she's going through the pony trots, so hopefully it will all keep going,

"Simone will keep going because she's addicted like me."

Clemens has had his fair share of nice horses in his stable, with Grand Eagle struck down with injury before he was able to see the best of him, as well as Remember Cody, but it was Ourboybart that Clemens believed would have had a big future and was going to be special, but injury stopped him at just five-years-old.

"Belles Whisper is out of the same mare as Ourboybart,

"I had a lot of horses that should have been better than they were,

"But the best one definitely that I have been associated with is Im Soxy."

Im Soxy, the son of the late Rich And Spoilt ran his last race on the last day of 2021, and after 117 starts for 13 wins and 39 placings, finished his career with an impressive $225,081 in stakes.

Clemens love of the horse and the sport is unwavering, with four currently in work, he shows no signs of slowing down.

"You definitely wouldn't be in it for the money,

"If you didn't love them, you wouldn't have them."
