Queensland Constellations: Sunshine Sprint Preview – Albion Park, Saturday 15th July 2023

Local hero Leap To Fame can land his second Group 1 victory in eight days and take his next step towards the title of Australia’s best pacer when he tackles the Sunshine Sprint at Albion Park on Saturday night.

The star four-year-old put his rivals to the sword with an impressive victory in last week's Rising Sun but faces a new challenge against some older and highly-accomplished rivals this time around.

Leap To Fame draws a similar barrier to the one he had in the Rising Sun where he whipped around the field mid-race to find the front before powering away late.

That extended his winning streak to seven and was his 14th success from 18 appearances at Albion Park.

Leap To Fame comes back to the 1660m journey on Saturday and that should suit him having won nine of his 11 attempts at the distance.

He'll have the weight of local support behind him in his quest to keep another local feature in the Sunshine state.

Victorian raider Mach Dan was too good in his resuming win at Melton a fortnight ago and owns a 50 per cent strike rate when second up so should be improved.

He has won the last two Newcastle Miles to prove his abilities at this distance and is drawn for a trail so could be dangerous.

Betterzippit comes off a much better performance last start when second in the Redcliffe Cup.

He looks to be peaking at the right time and gets every chance from the ace draw.

Spirit Of St Louis cops a tough draw but he brings winning form from Sydney and loves the distance, scoring in four of five attempts. He has been a top-level performer for a long time now and is too good to dismiss.

Blacksadance will find this tougher than his last-start win in the Wondais Mate but is drawn well enough to play a role.

TOP PICK: LEAP TO FAME (7)

MAIN DANGERS: MACH DAN (8); BETTERZIPPIT (1)

BEST VALUE: SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (10); BLACKSADANCE (3)

Classy mare Braeview Kelly looks ready to hit peak fitness and deliver a win in the night's other Group 1 feature, The Golden Girl.

The five-year-old has been going well with placings in all three starts since a spell after a highly successful Sydney summer carnival campaign where her wins included the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Mile along with a fifth in the Miracle Mile.

Braeview Kelly came from wider on the back row when runner up last week but is drawn to get a nice trail and access the sprint lane this time.

That gives her the chance to return to winning form.

Amore Vita chased Sunshine Sprint hopeful Mach Dan when resuming with a second at Melton, her first outing since a second to Braeview Kelly in the Queen Elizabeth II Mile.

She draws on the back row but has won two of three second-up attempts so should be improved and will enjoy the return to her own sex.

Manhattan retired with broken gear last week but had looked close to a win with a string of placings before that.

She has been ticking over nicely and gets every chance from the ace draw.

Uptown Beachgirl cops a tougher draw than in last week's win but she is in form so must be respected while Soho Historia has a good strike rate at this distance and won her only visit to this venue. She is well drawn and should be wound up fresh.

TOP PICK: BRAEVIEW KELLY (8)

MAIN DANGERS: AMORE VITA (10); MANHATTAN (1)

BEST VALUE: SOHO HISTORIA (3)

The Albion Park meeting also sees the inaugural running of The Hayden, a slot race for Queensland bred and trained three and four year-olds with the winner qualifying for the $2.1 million Eureka.

The race presents a bigger test for Captain Shuffles but he is flying having put together three successive wins, working forward to lead from this same draw last week before going on to score by 2.5m.

He goes up to a distance where he is unbeaten and will be at his peak so can deliver again.

Speak The Truth draws on the back row but is a big danger as he will relish the class drop from a midfield finish in last week's Rising Sun.

He was a winner here two back after twice chasing home Leap To Fame when in the placings. With even luck he will be hard to hold out.

Future Assured didn't feature in the Rising Sun but he had a tough barrier. He can get a trail and access the sprint lane from this draw so could be dangerous.

Dangerzone continues a run of tough draws but he is good enough to feature if things go his way.

TOP PICK: CAPTAIN SHUFFLES (5)

MAIN DANGER: SPEAK THE TRUTH (10)

BEST VALUE: FUTURE ASSURED (8); DANGERZONE (9)
