Third times the charm for Tommy Cruze NZ

Track curator by day, preparing winners by night, Byford based Michael Blakemore took out race five at Northam on Tuesday night with injury prone Tommy Kruze NZ getting up at his second start back this time in.

Six-year-old Tommy Kruze NZ came out on top ahead of the race favourite Major Dalton after coming from behind over the 1780m sprint trip in 1:59:7, driven by Kyle Harper.

It hasn't been smooth sailing for Blakemore, with the 29-year-old making mention that he has dealt with his fair share of setbacks with the gelding.

"His last win he did a tendon and then I rehabbed him and about 8-10 months later he did the other one real bad, so I just chucked out on the farm for a year,

"He had feet issues last time in also, so had to restart and he has been a different horse this time." Blakemore said

With his last win almost three years ago, Tuesday night's win is a true testament to Blackmores dedication and care, persevering over the years to see Tommy Kruze make his comeback in October 2022 before feet issues troubled the gelding in early 2023.

Lightly raced, he has now had just the 23 for 4 wins and 3 placings, with Blake confirming this morning that Tommy Kruze NZ has pulled up well from last nights run.

Blakemore currently has five in work, as well as working full time at Gloucester Park as a track curator.

With the night dedicated to Garry Elliott, race six, named in his honour went the way of All is Well for Kat Warwick and Chris Lewis. Sitting outside the leader for the majority, the three-year-old son of Foreclosure continued his great form, bringing up his fifth win in his last seven starts.

Garry Elliott a leading trainer in the Wheatbelt area and second-generation harness racing enthusiast had plenty of success over the years with his horses, including Soho Aintree, who gave him his biggest thrill in racing after running second in the 3YO Sires Final in 2012, going down narrowly by a neck on the line. He sadly passed away in July 2022
