Waverider set to sizzle

Exciting two-year-old Waverider makes his much-anticipated return to racing in tomorrow night’s Bridge Bar For NRL Pace (2130m).

The colt made an impressive start to his career earlier this year, winning a heat and the final of the Sales Classic (1730m).

He was due to make his return at Gloucester Park earlier this month but had to be withdrawn the day before.

The son of Downbytheseaside trialled at Byford last Sunday and finished second behind Champagne Classic winner Bet The House.

Kyle Symington drives the two-year-old tomorrow night and said he was looking forward to driving the Ryan Bell-trained pacer again.

"He's going really good," Symington told TABradio.

"His work has been really good.

"It was a nice trial and he didn't have to do too much.

"We were happy with how he recovered from that."

Despite his unbeaten record, Waverider will face stiff opposition in the two-year-old event on the card and will step up to the 2130m for the first time.

Waverider has drawn barrier two in the event, with Champagne Classic runner-up Prince Of Pain drawn inside him.

Stablemate and last start winner Heez A Vibe has drawn barrier three and will be driven by Gary Hall Jnr.

Symington said Waverider had already proven himself in two starts to be versatile enough to win tomorrow night.

"He came out of the gate, he settled and he seemed to run away from them with little to no asking," he said.

"My advantage is Waverider is versatile.

"We don't have to lead, but we will probably come out and test it (Prince Of Pain) a bit."

Symington also has the important drive on The Code Breaker in the Retravision-Winter Cup (2536m) from barrier one.

The six-year-old will be looking to score his first win at Free-For-All level in the $50,000 event and is the $2.65 TABtouch favourite ahead of Patronus Star ($3.70) and Prince Of Pleasure ($4.20).

"He's been freshened-up for this race and his work since his last run has been really good," he said.

"He's got the draw and he's got gate speed so I think he should be right in this."

Tomorrow night's Gloucester Park card gets underway at 5.12.
