Wildwest to deliver in shootout

WA Pacing Cup winner Wildwest will be out to press his claims for a sport in this year’s edition of the $450,000 event, when he lines up in tonight’s TABtouch Pace (2536m) at Gloucester Park.

The Gary Hall Snr-trained pacer is one of just five runners in tonight's Free-For-All event, where he has drawn barrier one.

Hall Snr also has Jumpingjackmac and Diego engaged in the event from barrier three and four respectively.

Deni Roberts teams up with Wildwest for the first time, while Stuart McDonald and Maddison Brown team up with Jumpingjackmac and Diego respectively.

Despite his numerical form not reading as well as his stablemates, Hall Snr said Wildwest deserved his chance to lead from the favourable draw.

"I definitely want to lead," Hall Snr told TABradio.

"He's a reasonably quick beginner.

"I know he's been crossed before, but he seems to be a bit fresher and wanting to do things this time back.

"I'm really pleased with him."

Jumpingjackmac made his return to racing last week and ran home well to finish second.

Diego also made his return in the same race and finished a credible sixth.

Hall Snr said he would look to be more positive with Diego tonight and indicated Jumpingjackmac would be driven in a similar manner to last week.

"I'll probably send Diego forward to the breeze and hopefully he (Jumpingjackmac) can get the one-one," he said.

"It depends how much pressure is in the race as to whether Jumpingjackmac or Mighty Ronaldo can get over them."

Mighty Ronaldo, a last start August Cup winner, has drawn the outside barrier in the small field and is the $2.65 favourite with TABtouch.

Wildwest ($3), Jumpingjackmac ($3.10) and Diego ($8.50) occupy the next three lines of betting.

Hall Snr will also welcome back talented mare Acharne Girl from barrier 10 in tonight's Catalano Pace (2130m).
