Mature Tiger back for cup tilt

Reigning 4YO Classic (2130m) winner Pinny Tiger has come back a more mature and relaxed horse, according to trainer Michael Brennan.

The five-year-old produced an eye-catching 2185m trial at Pinjarra yesterday in his first public outing since his Sydney campaign earlier this year.

Pinny Tiger, who was driven by Trent Wheeler, showed his usual electric gate speed in the trial and led throughout, before being beaten a half-head by Im The Black Flash.

Michael Brennan said he got exactly what he wanted during and after Pinny Tiger's trial.

"He went super," Brennan told The Trots WA.

"The times were electric and, more importantly, his heart rate was good when he came back in and he's pulled up super.

"He ran the gate well and then relaxed super until the 1200 when he touched a wheel and that set him off.

"The pleasing thing was he sustained the 27.9, 27 and 27.4 on the bridle.

"Trent didn't turn the stick and he thought he'd done enough by the time Im The Black Flash got alongside him."

Following his win in the Nights Of Thunder, Pinny Tiger went to New South Wales in an attempt to make the Miracle Mile field.

Despite not winning any of his three starts, he performed admirably in running fourth and fifth in the Newcastle Mile and Schweppes Sprint respectively.

Brennan said he expected the benefits of the trip to show this campaign.

"If he had run a 27.9 and 27 then his last quarter probably would've been 30.4 and not the 27.4 he ran on the bridle yesterday," he said.

"Those hard mile races against the best horses in the country can make them.

"He's gone to another level and it will be a very exciting next six weeks."

Pinny Tiger will make his return to racing in next Friday's Free-For-All at Gloucester Park.

Brennan said he would likely start the pacer in the $100,000 James Brennan Memorial (2536m) and JP Stratton Cup (2130m) on October 13 and 27 respectively, before a shot at the WA Pacing Cup on November 10.

Meanwhile, Never Ending headlines nominations for next Wednesday's $35,000 Battle Of Bunbury.

The race is set to provide an important guide to November's Group 1 WA Derby at Gloucester Park.

Never Ending could face stiff opposition from stablemate Rolling Fire, while Prentice has also nominated Mikis Beach.

Crowd Control, Magnus Victor, Rocket City and Fess Up also feature in the nominations.
