He was made to wait almost a week, but Chris Lewis has become just the third driver to reach 6000 wins.

Chris Lewis got to the historic milestone in this afternoon's Alcoa – Pinjarra Alumina Refinery Pace (1684m) at Pinjarra.

Lewis drove the Jemma Hayman-trained Petes Honour to win the event by 3.1m.

His most recent winner was Copy Cat Queen at Gloucester Park last Tuesday night.

He had 10 drives between wins and came close to bringing up the milestone twice on trotter Nickys Son, who finished second last Tuesday and today at Gloucester Park and Pinjarra respectively.

The 68-year-old joins Gavin Lang and Chris Alford as the only drivers to reach the milestone.

Lewis said he was pleased the milestone was out of the way.

"Now we can move on past it," Lewis told The Trots WA.

"I suppose it's an achievement.

"When you start off in this game you don't expect to get to 6000.

"When I started, 1000 was a pretty good effort."
