Lynn confident Elegant Peak NZ has big future ahead of her

Elegant Peak NZ broke through for her first win in WA on Monday at Pinjarra at just her second attempt, and trainer Brad Lynn is confident the six-year-old mare has a big future ahead of her.

Purchased relatively cheap from New Zealand, Elegant Peak NZ was sent to Clive Dalton in Victoria where she had 21 starts one win and eight placings, before she was eventually sent to WA where her connections reside.

"Clive did a super job with her, she had some gating issues and he sorted her out."

Arriving to Brad Lynn property around eight weeks ago, last week's run at Pinjarra was treated as a trial, but yesterday's run has given them plenty to get excited about, with Toby Lynn driving her to victory off the 30m handicap over the 2116m standing start.

"The drive helped, was a beauty."

The win put Toby Lynn in the running for Gem Drive Of The Week on this week's One Out One Back Show, where the 22-year-old came out on top with 46% of the votes.

"She's got lots of improvement yet,

"I think yesterday they went 2:01:5 for the stand which is pretty fast."

Ultimately, the aim is to head to the Trotters Cup next February at Gloucester Park, but before then, she heads to Gloucester Park this Friday night where she has drawn barrier one in race nine at Gloucester Park in the seven-horse field.

The Westral Quality Since 1973 MS Trot is set over the 2536ms trip at Gloucester Park.

With just three wins under her belt so far, she comes to WA with a low assessment, and after Friday night's race, Lynn confirmed they will race her fortnightly, concentrating on the races at Pinjarra leading up to the bigger trotters' races in the new year.

In fairly common square gaiters form, Elegant Peak NZ isn't without her own challenges, with a few behavioural quirks thrown in for good measure, trainer Brad Lynn is quite confident that the WA racing will suit her well.

"She pulls hard,

"What we've sort of found is that she has enjoyed racing here because they race a bit more even."

"At the moment we will just keep her at Pinjarra where she seems to be relaxing,

"I know were going to go Friday, but after that, we will stick with local,

"Theres been times in the past where she's been extremely hard to drive,"

Although he had Ropeburn back in late 2015 for a few starts, Lynn explained that Elegant Peak NZ is ultimately his first trotter and he's enjoying the journey with her.

Elegant Peak NZ has pulled up well from Mondays run at Pinjarra,

"We've brought her up really light and fresh and that's been my goal and its worked,

"She's really enjoying it."
