Kylah Madden made her debut just weeks ago, and just last week we saw Lachlan Kennelly make his trial debut at Pinjarra on Wednesday February 7, with the 19-year-old excited for what's to come.

Kennelly, who's introduction to horses is a fairly recent one, learning to ride just six years ago at 13-years, has always had a love of animals in general, but once he first experienced horses, he was hooked, now owning two of his own.

"I was always drawn to the horses, but I was always a bit nervous being around them and seeing how big they were,

"Mum gave it a crack, probably hoping it was a hobby I would grow out of eventually, but once I started, I haven't really looked back from the horses."

Initially starting out working on weekends and his spare time after school for Bayley Thomas he discovered a love for the standardbred, and when he landed himself a weekend gig for Jemma Hayman and Ross Olivieri, his interest only grew, eventually going on to part-time work and now working full-time for the successful stable.

"(I was) jogging and doing that, and then had a few goes at doing pacework on one of the old boys, Jet, and that got me hooked, it kind of just went from there,

"The more horses I got to drive there, I eventually went down to Byford track, It's been a bit of journey from there."

"I'm really enjoying it, I've done two trials now and the first one was really good, and it got me hooked and it felt great,

"Born Yesterday was really good but I had a bit of a fault towards the end, but I'm learning lessons and I'm really enjoying it at the moment."

Confident on the track, the ultimate goal for Kennelly is to make it Gloucester Park on a Friday night, but he's not rushing the process, just hoping to finish his 30 satisfactory trials by the end of 2024.

"I'm just going to take it one drive at a time and take it from there,

"I want to take my time and make sure I've got everything I need to go into the races, make sure I've set myself up well, I'd say."

With no issues with his confidence, Lachlan has found the switch from riding to driving an easy one, with the principals of both relatively similar.

Lachlan currently has two horses of his own, and now steering away with showing, he's found a passion in Endurance riding and confirmed his special standardbred, The Dali Express has the cool, calm demeanour for it.

"When I first started down at Jemma's, I got him out to help out at trials and I fell in love with him,

"I think it was two weeks later he went up to Bayley's (Thomas) to start rehoming, and I was privileged enough to break him in and start him to saddle and he had a few people come and look at him which just weren't the right fit, and after watching that I realised he was my horse,

"Bayley allowed me to have him, and he's been a great standy, awesome horse,

"Jack's an absolute tank at it (Endurance), that horse can do anything, he enjoys the endurance rides as much as I do."

Goodluck to Lachlan who at this stage heads to Pinjarra trials today for a drive.
