What a difference a day makes

That seems to have been the case in the Brigadier Gerard G3 at Sandown on Thursday.

The winner Hukum had been off the track for 356 days as opposed to the second home and favourite Desert Crown who had 355 days off the track.  Did that extra day of rest matter?

Probably not in this case as the winner was able to take the short-priced favourite and Derby Winner Desert Crown in the closing stages to win by ½ length.

Desert Crown's stablemate Solid Stone 16/1 had led for much of the race but was found missing at the finish and had to take the third money.

Earlier the Henry II went to Roberto Escobarr, the 7/5 favourite, who prior to his return to the track in March had been out for over a year, and interestingly his last race before this extended holiday saw him beaten by Sleeping Lion, who was third yesterday.  The winner is trained by William Haggas and was ridden by Richard Kingscote and they just got the head in front of Nate The Great.
