150th Kentucky Derby

Saturday (US Time - Sunday am in Australia) will see 20 horses line up for the Kentucky Derby.

However the track is sloppy and that may not be to the liking of all the runners.  The Pletcher trained Fierceness has just returned to the top of the market but we still prefer Sierra Leone, the Coolmore owned son of Gun Runner who is with Chad Brown and will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione.

We were enthusiastic about the Japanese runner Forever Young but the condition of the track may be a worry.  He's a lovely horse – by Real Steel – and has already won the Saudi Derby and the UAE Derby at Meydan.  On a firm track we would have him on top and while we will keep him safe we just have this doubt.

Two more to consider are both with Brad Cox – Catching Freedom, a son of Constitution and the ride of Flavian Prat on 8/1, and Just A Town, a Justify with Florent Geroux on board and 10/1.
