Harpalee to salute in Gold Strike

The $125,000 Callaghan Motors VOBIS Gold Strike, a two-year-old race set to take place over 1000m as the fifth race on the card, is the most valuable flat race at The Bool.

Newcomer La Vie En is expected to have her supporters debuting for Lindsey Smith.

The daughter of Blue Point fetched $360,000 when led through the ring at the 2023 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Fred Kersley's mount has an inside barrier here and, while she looks to hold strong claims on paper, preference is for the more experienced HARPALEE.

The youngster broke her maiden at the second time of asking when delivering a victory in a 1000m maiden on a good 4 track at Ballarat in March.

The pick could finish only sixth in the Listed Xtreme Freight Valley Pearl over 1200m at Moonee Valley but returned to form racing on the Heath course at Caulfield last time.

The selection was beaten just under one-and-a-half-lengths when fourth on her return to this distance when racing on a good 4 track last time out.

The form of that event hasn't been properly tested as yet but it's notable that the fifth home delivered a good third in the VOBIS Platinum Showdown last weekend.

Jockey Luke Currie's mount has a decent barrier in six here and she is taken to record the second win of her career.

Fizz for Warrnambool success

The penultimate race at Warrnambool is a 1200m Benchmark 70 handicap held on a soft 6 surface.

Keitel has demonstrated good form since returning from over a year off the track and he rates highly in what looks a competitive affair.

The four-year-old returned with a win over this distance in a Benchmark 64 handicap on a good 4 track in January.

Two fourth placed finishes followed, prior to losing out narrowly when runner-up in a 1206m Benchmark 78 handicap at Terang.

However, FLYING FIZZ is preferred in this contest with the filly, who has made just three previous starts, preferred.

Trained by Matthew Williams, she made the perfect start to her career when saluting by a length in a course and distance maiden on a good 4 track in October.

A step up to 1400m appeared no issue when maintaining her unbeaten record in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Sandown Lakeside the following month.

The switch to a wet track proved no issue, when beaten three lengths into second in a Listed contest at Caulfield in December.

The daughter of Street Boss has been off the track since but with the drop back in distance no issue, she is selected to register her third win in four career starts.

Sunshine for Grafton glory

Noriyuki Masuda rides ECHO SUNSHINE in the eighth race at Grafton and he looks up to partnering the mare to victory in the 1181m Class 1 handicap.

The selection has shown a liking for a soft surface in the past, including when a close second in a 1000m Benchmark 50 handicap at Casino earlier this month.

The five-year-old raced from the front that day and has a good barrier in six for this contest.

Trained by Ethan Ensby, the mare has won under Masuda in the past and, having performed well second up in the past, she is taken to double her career tally.
