Three meetings in Japan today with NAR action from Funabashi, Nagoya and Sonoda. We've done the form and picked out the best bets for the day.

Funabashi Race 6- #3 Calme Step

Keen to stick with this filly who has won both career starts in impressive style. She was sent around at $1.60 on debut and led all of the way to win by a length and backed it up very well at $3.60 last start, again able to lead and blitz her rivals by 6 lengths. She's clearly got very good early speed and in this field of seven over 1500m she should find the front comfortably. Having to extend to 1500m is the slight niggle but she's given no indication she won't handle it and with a number of horses in this field starting single figures last time out, especially #6 Rumba Rumba Rumba who went around at $2.70, I think we get another good chance to back Calme Step.

Nagoya Race 9- #1 Rabbit Light (e/w)

This market should be dominated by a couple of horses and I think that leaves a great opportunity to back Rabbit Light on an each way basis. This four-year-old filly has won three times from 16 starts and is racing in good form at the moment. Last start she was 1-2 lengths off her absolute best when finishing second as a $9.10 chance but drawn the inside here allows her to settle close in the run as she has done in the past. There's not much between her and some of the likelier chances here, with four horses in this field having gone around at $1.60 or less at their last start. #11 May Max will be short in betting, as will #8 Toho Dublin but on ratings there isn't much between the three.

Sonoda Race 10- #5 Grand Rutile

Another race with a few very evenly matched horses which should make for good betting. I think Grand Rutile is the one to beat and the market may not reflect that as his starting price profile is around $5-6 of late, compared to a horse like #1 Conjunction who started even money when winning last time out. Grand Rutile was also a winner when last seen at this track over 1800m on wet ground, but his form on dry ground is just as good so any conditions are fine. He appreciated the rise in trip last time out so this race over 1870m suits and he ran a good time last start compared to a few slower races these are coming through. Regular jockey Osamu Shimohara is riding well at the moment, striking at 19.4% at Sonoda and I think he's a big chance of winning again.
