The bet365 Best From The West - Railway Stakes Day

It's Day 2 of The Pinnacles carnival on Saturday with the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) the feature on what is to be a very hot day in the west!

Day 2 of The Pinnacles will have a delayed start due to hot weather, but the action on track will be sizzling as the Group 1 Railway Stakes takes centre stage.

Plenty of "eastern flavour" has made the trek across the Nullarbor, and luckily Racing and Sports analyst Trent Crebbin has produced a wonderful piece previewing the G1 feature which you can read here!

Although the start to racing will be delayed, we won't have to wait long for the Best From The West to line up, that's PLAYZ WITH FIRE in Race 2.

The five-year-old daughter of Playing God is very lightly raced, only having 8 starts in her career thus far due to a long injury layoff, with her last win coming in December 2021 just prior to that setback.

She was right back to her best last start when slowly away and settling near the tail of the field under William Pike, but rattled home to just miss in a very eye-catching effort with the form already being franked.

With a kinder draw today, she can settle closer than she has done in recent efforts with her last win being over 1400m, scoring in a midweek Class 1 by three lengths.

Playz With Fire looks nicely set up on Saturday, with her latest ratings with Racing and Sports already up to winning this, but her recent performances suggest she can improve yet again third-up and out in trip.

Race 5 is the A.J. Scahill Cup (Listed, 2100m), a key pointer to the Perth Cup to be run on New Year's Day, and the 2023 renewal looks right in the alley of CASINO SEVENTEEN for the dominant combination of Pike and Williams.

Back-to-back winner Marocchino doesn't go to post to attempt the three-peat, leaving the door ajar for a new champion to be crowned.

Casino Seventeen didn't have the best of luck in the Luckygray a fortnight ago, only getting out late before hitting the line full of running, beaten 0.8 lengths.

Being slightly away from the inside probably helps Pike this time around, as does the rise in trip having rounded up his rivals in dominant fashion in the Pinjarra Cup over 2300m to end last campaign.

The six-year-old has improved his rating at each of his last four starts and is still yet to hit his target races this campaign.

This year's A.J. Scahill Cup will take more winning than most editions, but Casino Seventeen has the platform to launch and cement himself at the top of the Perth Cup market.

The best each-way play is one Best From The West and Racing and Sports Podcast listeners will be familiar with, the Neville Parnham-trained ZIPAWAY.

The three-year-old took his medicine from the wide draw last start and was probably run of the race in the Fairetha, despite finishing just outside the placings.

With a niggle on current favourite Super Smink being able to run out the mile and the unknown on how Keshi Boom will handle the seven-day backup, things could play into the hands of Zipaway.

Parnham was very bullish following the Fairetha, declaring: "If Zipaway draws a barrier, he'll win the Guineas".

Well, the gelding drew barrier 4 and definitely won't be spotting his rivals a head start as he did a fornight ago.

He looks the most promising of the boys, and with little question marks hanging over the two best girls in the race, I'm happy to head back to the well in the three-year-old feature.
