GWS don't plan on following Sydney's approach of roughing up Nick Daicos, but coach Adam Kingsley is torn on whether to tag the Collingwood sensation.

The Swans sent tagger Ryan Clarke to Daicos on Sunday and made a point of physically targeting the Magpie while limiting him to a season-low 25 disposals.

When Clarke kicked an early goal, his Sydney teammates let Daicos know about it, shoving him and ruffling his hair, sparking a series of scuffles.

"It's not something that l've given our players a directive to do in my short time here," Kingsley told reporters on Wednesday.

"It's probably not reflective of the way I think it should be done, to be quite fair.

"It's more important when you're actually physical on the guy when the ball's live and he's a chance to get it, as opposed to when the umpire has the ball, I don't think there's as much value in it during that period of the game.

"So we probably just tend to focus on the live ball more and getting our jobs done there.

"But again, the players might have a different view, and if they do then that's their responsibility. I won't stand in their way."

Daicos has said he loves being tagged as it allows Collingwood to manipulate other match-ups.

Kingsley agreed excess targeting of the 20-year-old could work in the Magpies' favour at the MCG on Sunday but stressed the Giants needed to limit his influence.

"If we let him run free and do whatever he wants, then he'll punish us and it'll be very difficult for us to win the game," he said.

"You've got to take something away from the opposition and you've got to try and maximise what you've got in your own hand.

"That's how we'll approach it, whether that's a full blown tag, whether it's you know, trying to rough him up - I'm not sure that that necessarily works either.

"There's pros and cons to doing it (tagging). But whether it's a tag, whether it's a responsibility of players in his area to get the job done, we need to stop his influence."

Skipper Toby Greene will return from an ankle injury if he gets through Friday's main training.

"He will train with a view to getting through that, we'll see, we'll assess, and then if we need to run some further tests we'll do that prior to the game," Kingsley said.

"I'm hoping and expecting him to play this week but I'm not sure, but if he doesn't play this week I would expect him to play the following week."
