2023 AFL Round 9 Preview – COLLINGWOOD v GWS

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2023 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

COLLINGWOOD v GWS

Sunday 14 May @ MCG

We end the round with what looks like a one sided fixture and in truth it really should be.

Collingwood does not know how to lose and in effect they actually won in a more clinical fashion last week than their normal flashing home like Chautauqua style.

Whereas GWS are very up and down and while having a go are not capable of maintaining excellence against the best opponents.

In the end the Pies won by 5 goals against the Swans but it took some hard work to end there. In fact they were down at half time.

However Sydney didn't take their chances and kicked poorly while the home side created enough chances for their smaller but fluent forward line.

Nick Daicos didn't have to have 40 to win the game but that is more credit to Sydney's work on him. The team worked around that. Brody Mihocek got 5 of his own and that was the difference.

Come the biggest of games will they be able to withstand? What if say Geelong's defence holds and Cameron or Hawkins gets a hold?

The midfield have plenty to go through there and that is their 1-Wood.

They will face a Giants side very plucky but not high on high end talent. It took a couple of big impacts from Bontempelli and his crew and that blew them away.

Tom Green is collating so much ball he has poisoning. He's their in and under man. He needs help so a hard tag by someone like Taylor Adams is likely.

Until such times as they drop one or have injuries or show signs of arrogance, you can only keep tipping Collingwood. Their strength of team takes them places others can't.

They could kick a score soon too. One rider is that the Giants do play against them well so it should be close for a while.

Match Selection: Collingwood by 26 points

Suggested Bets: Collingwood 1-39 @ $2.25
