2023 AFL Round 11 Preview – RICHMOND v PORT ADELAIDE

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2023 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

RICHMOND v PORT ADELAIDE

Sunday 28 May @ MCG

These are the sort of games that the old Port Adelaide sides would lose but the 2023 version seems a lot more likely to get the job done.

Despite the Tigers having a good recent record against the Power including that famous Prelim in their Premiership year, it needs some imagination to have that happening here.

Richmond was not strong enough for long enough to hold out the Bombers in the Dreamtime match. They will be annoyed because they had over 3 goal leads a long way into the game.

As predicted, it was going to be hard to see Cotchin, Martin and Riewoldt kicking as many goals as they did the week prior. This time it was only 2 between them.

And while Taranto got 33 disposals, they didn't do enough with it while Shai Bolton getting 28 is great but he's having to get midfield numbers with the lack of productivity there.

That midfield situation will require a lot of attention given how well the Port lot did just last Friday against the elite of Melbourne.

Zak Butters had a game for the ages with 41 and 2 goals. But he wasn't alone as Houston, Rozee, Wines and Horne-Francis joined in the heroics.

What was even more meritorious was the lack of power up front with the big men out. Dixon and Marshall would be there normally. Yet they found a way.

But the big story of the week was the coaching change – ironically these could be the sides part of a coaching swap at season's end.

Struggling to see how Richmond is so close here in the betting. Port are so much better a side. Unless it is the 'one for the road' scenario given the week gone.

So Port to win again. Richmond has never been a tagging lot but even putting more work into Butters can let Rozee off the leash.

Match Selection: Port Adelaide by 22 points

Suggested Bets: Connor Rozee 25+ disposals/1+ goal @ $2.69
