Thanks imaj eel.

It didn't hurt that it was okay on a dollar for dollar basis, easy to do the accounting.

Sometimes it is harder to quantify in a post like this. Recently I had (almost) no winners, but one 2nd placed was a high-odds and together with the favourite the quinella was ok for the day. The problem there was I don't have time to calculate and report "what-if" that approach was taken for every similar race.

This is without even mentioning trifectas and f4s and they are certainly always an easy option, having no more than 8 runners in the field.
So I'll take the approach that if it is up to 25% loss on win bets then that is still okay provided there were some highly paying placed ones.
