Magic Millions Absentees

CountChivas

With the Magic Millions 2 year old Classic being run today, I thought I’d check to see how many of last year’s top-priced yearlings have made it into the race.

I checked the top 30 yearlings from last year whose prices range from $1.35m to $350,000 and found that Oakleigh Girl ($420,000) is the only runner from that list who will line-up today.

Top price last year was a Fastnet Rock-Smart Company colt who cost $1.35m and will race as Valentia if/when he races.

Next was a Redoute’s Choice-Apercu colt who cost $800,000 and will race as Aperchoix if/when he races.

Third top-price was a Lonhro-Cirque Du Soleil filly who brought $700,000 and will race as Twirl if/when she races.

Next was a Fastnet Rock-Awesome Planet colt who was knocked-down for $600,000 and will race as Awesome Rock if/when he races.

Rounding out the top 5 is a Redoute’s Choice-Daralara colt who also cost $600,000 and races as Here Comes The Boom. HCTB started in the Maribyrnong trial at Flemington last October where he finished 9th of 14 beaten 10 lengths behind another MM graduate in Risen From Doubt (a $140,000 purchase).

The favourite for today’s race is Unencumbered, he was a $70,000 bargain-buy yearling at last year’s sales and has already earned his connections $323,000 with 4 wins and 1 placing from 5 starts.
Funny how it always seems to be the cheap ones who go on to be the better racehorses.

Just for the record, I'll be backing Unencumbered in today's Classic.

Celestial Dragon is my pick.

The $70,000 bargain-buy has now taken his stakes earnings to $1.5m.
He looked the winner a long way out.

Some Troll,

Normally people buy a 10% share which is the cost of an 8yr 2nd hand car.

2nd hand cars dont pay u 150k a yr later...

I always laugh when I read someone flat affording a bus ticket declares $70,000 horses "bargain buys".

I'm laughing at present.

I'm laughing at present.''

So am I.
