Also, can someone explain to me how this happens - is the inside rock hard or something?
He buys mostly Coolmore horses who have been running in G1 races, either as pacemakers of Classic contenders. They come over here and there are no suitable races for them. Some of them are already burnt out after being set for the Derbys in Europe.
They cannot run in any of the Aussie handicaps over 2000m because they get too much weight, so he puts him through the formulaic local ritual of 1200, 1400, 1600, 2000 .... These horses are consistently tailed off in these completely unsuitable races and I think they lose all confidence and they then do nothing once they finally get up the correct distances.
With Alandi, I think the siutaion is even worse - look at the horse's form - it's a G1 2800m + horse. What is the point is making it run around in sprint races. Isn't it the trainers job to get the horse fit at home. Why waste all that money Lloyd? Look at Mourayan - you have finally figured out you can start him off over 1800 or 2000m - why not learn from that.
Waller has foung the trick to imports. The most important thing is to get them off a low rating, so that they can run in 2000m/2400m and win some races and some money. Maybe one of them will even win a Caulfield Cup of Melbourne Cup - Foreteller or Hawk Island or MKOF perhaps. December Draw is another with the correct profile - although I predict he will go the way of Speed Gifted and not live up to the hype.
Anyway after posting this, one of his horses will probably win over 1600m today at Flemington - but I doubt it somehow.
Barcelona are simply the greatest football team that I have ever seen. They play a level of football that has never been witnessed before. Take the Spain team and add Messi - every time I watch them, I think wow!
In saying that, I am an ex-Man U tragic, so will be secretly rooting for them, even though I don't really follow them any more - perhaps Giggsy can put his personal woes behind him and put on a show.
Barcelona are amazing but can be beaten by luck and the gods (as shown in the Arsenal game).
I'll take the $4 on offer for united to win in 90 mins but will have a saver on Barca to win 3-0. If they get in front, united are gone.
Hopefully it will live up to expectations.
Just wondering if anyone has some advice on:
a) Which section to go to - the website indcates level 3 might be the way forward
b) what's the best local form guide / source of tips (ie the equivalent of best bests or SMH form)
Any hints welcome ...
The highlight for me so far was the German drubbing of the endlessly overoptimistic English - made even more satisfying by the disallowed goal (karma for '66 at last). Until England can gather 4 or 5 top-line creative players up front and on the flanks (they only have Rooney), they will always fail.
I backed Spain pre-tournament and even after the loss to Switzerland (in which Spain were excellent), I think they have looked the goods all the way through. I understand how their style is not deemed attractive to the part-time viewer but if you have watched a lot of football and play a lot too, you most likely think that they way they pass and keep the ball is pure magic. They need to shoot more - particularly Iniesta - but overall they are the best team and they play pure beautiful football.
They still need to beat Holland however, which will not be easy. They have many good players and also retain possession well- however Van Persie looks lost and they have not convinced me so far. The win against Brazil was fortuitous, with 10 bad mins for Brazil losing the game.
My prediction for the final is a low scoring game - unless Spain score early in which case, we would have a cracker.
However I predict a 2-0 win for Spain but if Holland snuck it 1-0, it would not shock.
Spain to win with Villa to score. Happy days!
Any idea on whether they'll be stepping out in the Autumn?
Efficient wins the G1 Derby, the G1 Melbourne cup and a 2000 G1 wfa and gets 58kg.
Viewed wins the G1 Melbourne cup and the G1 Caulfield cup and gets 58kg.
a) WHY?
You can't get penalised for winning a WFA lead up to the cup but you do in a (presumably lower class) handicap.
b) WHY?
It all seems a bit silly really. Handicaps are good for big fields, big odds and big surprises but I think they need to re-think a few of the rules in the spring ....
I have never laid a horse on there - not even once. Now I know some of the personalities on here who like to boast about laying favourites every now and again and fair enough, I can see how a punter can do a few selective lays every on chosen races but there are clearly not enough people small punters out there to match $100k+ with the backers on each race on a Saturday.
So who is laying - is it just blokes like you guys playing bookie and laying across the entire field in each race. I know the win/loss calculation is clearly designed to help that.
I'm interested because if no one was laying, it clearly wouldn't work. Are any of you guys playing bookie on Betfair?
Should be a decent price on the TAB given the skew that Niconero being in the race will cause to the prices.
The other group 1 (Race 7) looks a serious race also. I'm wondering whether it's a touch short for Collection but I'm giving it consideration.
Any thoughts?
I love the local coverage with Darren, Clint and Jenny but hate the way I can only see the full coverage from about 6:30 onwards. I understand that there are people in the world who like watching the ponies run around in Tasmania, Timbuktu etc but not me ...
Is there any way of watching the full HK coverage from race 1 through the internet or some other foxtel station I don't know about?
Incidentally, if anybody is having a punt on HK, do not do so without referring to the tips index on the Hong Kong jockey club website. Compare the Initial tips index with the Race day index and you will be amazed what a good guide it is. I win almost every week (a unique concept for me).
