Hi Im back with some more questions.

Today at Kalgoorlie 62yo (i think ??) Danny Miller won the Hannans Hcp - unfortunately this race has lost its listed status from last year.

But question remains - who is the oldest Jockey to have won a stakes race in Australia??

-----------

Then in the last Miller combined with the 10yo Birkhall for a stunning victory.

Is this the oldest combo for Rider and Horse ??

A 62yo Jock on a 10yo horse ??
Most sports seem to have stats men who you can ask any questions to and they can come up with the answer.

So do we have a racing historian/stats man who can bring home the answers to some tough questions?

I'm sure there are plenty of questions worth asking and answering.

I will start with my own questions.

If anyone can provide the answer I will be quite happy.

Has there ever been a horse win the Cox Plate as its maiden Group 1 victory?? If so who was the last to do so??

PS - Feel free for anyone else to pose some tough questions also.
Apologies to SK who has the proper one on another thread.

How hard can it be..... I'll give it a bash

Real Saga - Pretty sure the owners once owned a horse called Real Sea...Sea is wet so 9/10

Reward For Effort - sound like something a farmer would say.......farmers love rain. 9/10

Manhattan Rain 7- Pleeeease...its got Rain in its name 10/10

Delago Bolt - Bolt...like lightning. Lightning generally means rain 8/10

Wanted - We want winners, not rain 2/10

Phelan Ready - Spelt like Ryan Phelan who used to work for Sky. I shot him with a water pistol at a party once - he didnt like it wet. 1/10

Zikmann - Zikmann and Associates are based in Maroubra....pretty wet at the beach so I'll say 6/10

More Joyous - Same initials as Michael Jordan....he hated the wet 1/10

Rostova - Named after the central figure in War and Peace. That book bored me to tears.....tears are wet. 7/10

Melito - a name with Catholic links. Therefore surely its holy water falling on the track....8/10

Indian Ocean sounds wet so 8/10. (how can I beat him.....too clever)

Headway - I loked this up on the on-line dictionary and this was the definition and 'example used in sentence' I found-- Noun. motion forward: we felt our way out to the open sea. Open Sea.....thats wet 8/10

Our Joan of Arc - Too easy......just ask Noah 7/10

Horizons - Cheap packet of durries my mum used to smoke back in the day. My mum swims like a stone.....1/10

Marquardt - Hot hot hot Sports Illustrated model who I was last seen swanning semi-naked in a rock pool in The Bahama's. Thats an 8/10

So Anyway - exactly 1/10

--------

Please Note : This was posted by another person on another forum but I thought it was funny and Im sure he won't mind me reproducing it here.

It was written in response to a legitimate website who took look at possible slipper wet trackers but slipped in the comment "Indian Ocean sounds wet so 8/10" in amongst some serious comment.

Woodlands Memorabilia

della

This is more of a hypothetical because at the moment of have no intention of selling but wondering if there is anywhere you can get horse racing memorabilia valued??

With the recent disbursement of the Woodlands Empire I was wondering what my framed montage of Occy and Lohnny would be worth??

It is titled Australian CupChampions - Like father, like son. There are 4 photos in total. Both horses winning the Australian Cup and signed by respective Jockeys Dye and Beadman plus photo of each horse being led in. Occy led by Jack and Lohnny by Bob. And of course I have one of those certificates of authenticity.

I have a few other items but this is my pride and joy. Just interested to know if someone can help me out with how much it would be worth if I had a really bad run on the punt.

Belmont 29th July

della

BELMONT JULY 29TH

Weather - Overcast with possible showers
Track - Dead
Rail - 4m

Notes - Over 40 mil of rain has fallen this week and altho the track is only rated Dead this is the first time for a long while horses will be racing on anything other than a firm surface, for that reason I have taken more than normal into account the horses ability or potential ability (based on breeding) to handle a wet track for a Dead track rating. We also see 5 races over 1400m or less with reasonably big fields - barriers will be extremely important along with current form and the likely race tempo.

Race 1 - Lucasdemandas put in one of the most impressive recent 2yo wins, scorching the turf for an effortless win over 1200m on debut, altho rising in weight and drawn slightly wide I expect it to push forward and be very hard to beat. Vain Crusader (Kenvain-Rivotion) has trialled impressively with 4 wins working up to its race debut. Rivotious, the sire of Rivotion was a noted producer of wet trackers. With Paul Harvey aboard its likely to attract some betting support. Blue Magic was very impressive at its Northam debut with an easy 4.8 length victory and a pretty handy time of 57.25. It then backed that up with another strong victory when leading throughout at Belmont on a Dead rated track - rises 1.5kg after a short 4 week freshen, must be a chance. The other worth considering is Zed's Girl who attracted strong betting support on debut when flying over the Northam 1000m is an impressive 56.86 when leading. Draw a bit wider today and well up in class but should be competitive. No's 1-5-2

Race 2 - A very interesting restricted grade race over 1000m. Plenty of speed here with Jean it Is, Kilfenora Lad and Torbay Bay all lowly weighted and capable of leading along with Amba Ale, Marri Park Special, My Leo, Danzadash and Just Looking are others that like to get right up on the pace, so we should see a solid tempo. Then we have the noted swoopers in Silver Seam, Zedfire and Crossing Jordan who will be looking to run home strong. The horse to beat and probably one of the better bets for the day for me is Silver Seam - drops way down in class after contesting the Listed Belmont Classic when finishing 3 lengths behind Great Nation. Was mentioned in the stewards report after commencing awkwardly and being being held up in the early part of the straight. The Jockey change to the state's leading rider in Paul Harvey is a major boost to its chances and from barrier 6 I expect it to get a lovely trailling run just off the speed. Its 2nd up record is 2 wins from 2 starts and it also has the same record on Dead rated tracks. The danger for mine is Zedfire, gets back so the barrier is not a concern and will enjoy what should be a strong tempo. All 7 career victories have been over 1000m and looks well weighted with the claim for inform apprentice Jess Hill, is also a proven performer on wet tracks.Whilst there are a few others with claims my next strongest selection would be Crossing Jordan who has improved dramatically this campaign after having surgery to correct a wind problem. Its last 2 victories over this distance have been very good and looks open to even more improvement. No's 1-2-9

Race 3 - An excellent 3yo event with another clash between Idyllic Prince and Homme plus the return of the very classy Desiarnez along with the promising McBuster, Stormed Out and Say Cherie. I am anticipating early speed will come from the wide draws with McBuster looking for the lead with Desiarnez and Stormed Out sliding over to also take up forward positions. This see should see Idyllic Prince, Say Cherie and Homme in good trailling positions just behind. Altho I found it very difficult to seperate theses runners Ive ended up making Homme my selection due to the gear change of Blinkers On. Trainer George Daly made the following comment "I’ve applied the blinkers to Homme, working on the theory that he is like his father Surtee who grew a leg when they were applied. He worked extra well in them on Wednesday for Russell Stewart." Idyllic Prince will once again be very hard to beat, whilst Desiarnez looks to have come back well and reports are that its recent trial win was very good - the wide barrier is a concern tho. Strong chances to McBuster, Stormed Out and Say Cherie. No's 2-1-3.

Race 4 - With the withdrawal of Hartley's Dream the race looks a bit more open. Spider Strikes was super impressive coming off a massive 439 day spell to win first up and whilst its last 2 runs have been good I was slightly disappointed with its run last week in welter company, combined with the fact its likely to start at a short priced quote Im going to look for value with other runners. The horse Im going to select is Empire Dancer who is also backing up from the same race, it was badly blocked between the 200m and 100m and should have played a part in the finish. Meets Spider Strikes on the same weight terms again but is likely to start at longer odds. Ser Grill was a massive run 1st up carrying 59.5kg behind James The Jet when it got too far back in a slowly run race, drops 6.5kg on that run and rises out to a more suitable 1600m. Regular jockey Jason Whiting has elected to stay with Empire Dancer but Shaun McGruddy is a more than capable replacement having close to a 100 winners for the season. No's 6-8-5.

Race 5 - Probably the best staying event of recent times. In form gallopers Magical Gold, Accept The Rose, Action Plan and Lawbook all have strong chances but Im going for the Sharon Miller trained Zambane. I blackbooked this galloper after it resumed with an excellent 4th behind Casual Wolf, Talk to the Wall and Kim Joy over 1400m when making strong ground late in the race. All 3 placegetters have subsequently gone on to win or place at there next few starts. Next start over 1600m it put in a similar good run when beaten 1.3 lengths once again producing the fastest last 600m for the race. Its previous 2 campaigns it has won when jumping out to the further distance and with those runs under its belt up I expect it to be cherry ripe for a win. I do have some queries over the ability of this horse to handle rain affected going so should the track become any worse than Dead I would tread warily. Hardest to beat will be Action Shot who produced a much improved effort with the Blinkers On last start, again drawn well it will get a nice run. Magical Gold stepping out over further distance has a good chance along with last start winner Accept The Rose who rises in weights. No's 9-4-1-2.

Race 6 - A difficult Restricted Grade affair for the males. Ended up staying with Collegian. Slight class rise for this 4yo gelding but with the good barrier its just going to get the run of the race. Hasn't missed a placed in any of his 9 lifetime starts and on the limit weight looks like a safe e/w bet. Untried on any rain affected surface but appears ok based on breeding. Maximus Munius was very good resuming after being given a superb ride by Jockey Peter Knuckey, drawn a bit awkwardly and rising slightly in weights but still has to be considered a strong chance, especially as it is a proven performer on wet tracks. Coppertito has been struggling for form lately but is a horse that loves rain affected going - its wet track record is easily the best in this race having won in Listed company. Drops back to easier company and with Paul Harvey aboard Im expecting a better run. No's 10-3-1.

Race 7 - The female division of the previous race and again a very competitive affair. A distinct lack of geniuine early pace here which is not going to help a lot of the fancied runners most notably Over Lock, Lust For Dust, Bremer Bay, and Last Reply. Im going to do exactly what my selection here suggests, Try For Value, this horse was very heavily backed last start in Midweek company and got the money, from a good draw will race on the speed and capable of winning despite the class rise. Just about a raffle for the minor spots but I've ended up going with Over Lock due to her good recent form and Tillibelle who produced a good run in defeat to the Oaks winner Moodometer last week but will have to work over from a wide draw. Very tough race and several other hopes. No's 16-1-15.

Race 8 - An excellent welter to finish what is a very good program of races. Quite a few horses here who like rain affected going - Who Did It, Attractions, Priceless Matt, Scenic Assualt, Cat In a Hat, Metaldale, Baltic Boy and This'll be The Day. Added to that list of chances would be City of Ruins would was a sensational return winner along with Field Commander who 2 runs back have been extremely good. We can't tip them all so I have settled on Scenic Assualt as my top selection. This is a super talented horse who at one stage strung together 8 consecutive wins and has contested a lot of the better middle distance sprints which includes a Listed win. From barrier 3 Jackman should have the option to take a forward position or settle midfield if the pace is strong. Its record on Dead or worse tracks is 6 starts from 8 runs. Forgive its last start when it pulled up lame. City of Ruins is without doubt the horse to beat after its first up run, sure to be strongly regarding in the betting also and perhaps may not represent value. One for value may be This'll Be The Day well drawn and drops right down in weight, its does really appreciate the softer tracks. Certainly others will strong claims. No's 4-7-16.

Bias - Self Attribution

della

Self-Attribution Bias

A trait know as self-attribution bias presents a serious challenge to learning, it refers to a situation where we attribute good outcomes to our skill and bad outcomes to misfortune.

For example, a random streak of winning results can fuel a belief in our ability and lead us to taking more and more risks - until, inevitably, our "fortunes" are reversed.

If we put our mistakes down to bad luck, what hope do we have of ever learning from them?

An excellent midweek meeting with the punters finally getting something back off the bookies.

Plenty of good tipping in the comp but RQ had the best effort with an outstanding 5 winners being the 1st 4 on the card and 16.1 shot Sir Chalmers in the last which he labelled "a very good horse". No doubt you won plenty.

Special mention to thepontiff who selected Blevvo with Early Express as the sub. Very big quinella - hope u backed it.

Amazing Ascot Day 2 Results

A very tough day at the office for most with only one favorite saluting all day and most winners at $10 or more. The feature race worth double points was taken out by $22.20 shot Early Express which had early run 2nd in the Railway but no one manage to select it.

Day 2 winner with 31.9 points was d:cksy with 31.9 points. The winners were Cat in a Hat 7.8 Trochee 22.2 and Black Tom 1.9. Jimmy13 was a close 2nd with 30.9 points courtesy of bookends Yarraman 13.7 and Try for Value 16.4.

In the overall standings Drakky stays on top with 53.1 with Todman closing in 2nd position on 42.2.
