"Townsville galloper Foreign Monarch will create a piece of history today when he lines up for his 200th start in the aptly named Foreign Monarch 200 Starts Handicap.
The eleven year old marvel started his career as a two year old in Townsville in October 1994 and has gone on to win 38 races and over $178,000 in prizemoney.
Whilst a winner four times at Cluden Park, he is more renowned as a dirt track specialist, with Charters Towers his favourite track having recorded 13 wins there.
"He's probably one of the most honest horses who has ever graced a racetrack," trainer Doug Murphy told Craig Baxter of the Townsville Bulletin. "He must have a heart as big as a racetrack as he never runs a bad race.""
Is this a record? I've never heard of horse even getting close to 200 starts.
