Is fourth spot really decided?

jmf

Has Adelaide really got fourth place sewn up?

Everywhere I have read is saying Adelaide finishes fourth and will play Geelong next week but St Kilda only need to beat Essendon by 85 or so points and the Bombers are in horrible form at the moment meanwhile the saints in their last two matches have had easy wins. You would think the reward of a top 4 berth would be enough to push the saints along meanwhile the Bombers really don't have anything to play for although after witnessing the roos and pies throw their top 4 aspirations away anything is possible.

I am a St Kilda supporter so is my bias getting the better of me or are they an outside chance of making the top 4?

Olympic Sports

jmf

What is everyone's thoughts about the olympic sports. Which ones should be included and which should go.

Sports that should go
Synchronized Swimming - Lol it is still in the olympics.

Boxing - A third of the bouts I have watched have resulted in the wrong guy winning.

Borderline
Football - Unless they relax the age restrictions although I can't see FIFA and the clubs supporting it.

Judo - I am surprised this sport is not in danger of being eliminated.

Taekwondo - The scoring system could do with a bit of improvement. Perhaps swap it with Karate which was close to getting into the 2012 olympics.

Weightlifting - Before the olympics I would have said get rid off it but drugs wise they haven't been too bad and the German in the mens super heavyweight was one of the moments of the games.

Tennis - Give it another chance. I see potential.

Sports that should get in
Cricket - No doubt here. One of the big things about 20/20 cricket will probably be the fact that eventually it will get Cricket into the olympics.

Karate - Was close to getting in the 2012 olympics.

Squash - Like Karate. Was awfully close to getting into the 2012 games.

Roller Sports - I loved BMX and this would be another good event.

Undecided
Golf - I don't know about this one. Wouldn't mind seeing a six round tournament. Maybe something like first two rounds and then cut half the field. Then two more rounds and cut half again and then two more rounds.

Reject It
Rugby Sevens - Doesn't really strike me as a great olympic sport. Good for Commonwealth games but not big enough for olympic games.

Baseball - Bring in the professionals or get out. Although the olympics are all about amateurs I think this will slowly begin to disappear from the olympics and I couldn't stand watching the minor league baseballers battle it out for gold knowing that there is way better competition.

Softball - The game between Australia and Japan was meant to be exciting but I was sort of hoping Japan would hurry up and finish them off which is a first for a passionate aussie such as myself. In other words I think it is a boring sport.

Sir Slick

I am not an avid follower of New Zealand horse racing but I just read something about him being set for the QEII Cup in Hong Kong and the singapore cup.

Are they out of their mind or is the horse a genuine chance?

Novak Chokeovic

jmf

Novak Djokovic is a talented player but will never win a grand slam unless he learns how to close a match. He has a serious problem and I thought it may have been fixed after the US Open but judging by the length it took him to close the matches against Becker, Hewitt and possibly Ferrer it seems to have got worse.
Brilliant coverage this year.

Delivering results an hour later then they have been announced on Fox Sports. Commentators are sub standard, choice of matches is pathetic, and their entire telecast seems to be built around Hewitt when he is playing on that day.

I am annoyed at the moment because thanks to Channel seven's no go zone placed on Fox Sports at Vodafone Arena there is no telecast of Luczak's match against Nalbandian where is up a break in the first set.

Instead we are watching an embarrasment where Hewitt is battling against a guy who is an average challenger circuit player. I don't get it. Yeah Hewitt is a drawcard but an Aussie playing well against one of the Australian Open favourites should get right of way or if not give it Fox Sports.

Australian Open Day 4

jmf

Unlucky day yesterday. Wawrinka retired hurt, Penneta lost a close three set game where she looked to have the momentum twice although there was no excuse for Schuettler.

Yesterday's results
Win
20 Unit multi of Davydenko and Gasquet @$1.35

Losses
20 Units on Stanislas Wawrinka
10 units on Rainer Schuettler
10 units on Flavia Pennetta

Loss for the day - -33 units
Loss for the tournament - -18 units

So time to stop the inevitable losing streak that is probably about to occur.

Tips
20 units on Fernando Verdasco @1.27
20 units on Juan Monaco @1.20
15 units on Marin Cilic @1.60
10 units on Robin Haase @2.05

20 units on Virginia Ruano Pascual @1.60

15 unit multi on Juan Monaco, Fernando Verdasco, Tomas Berdych (1.01), Novak Djokovic (1.02), Lleyton Hewitt (1.02).

Hopefully the luck is with these tips this time around.

Australian Open Day 3

jmf

Hopefully the day 3 tips can do just as well as yesterday's. Fewer tips today as the numbers shrink in the draws but hopefully there is still some good bets. As for day 2 it was a fairly good day for my loyal followers (I know there are none) and my men(my shadow, my presence, my soul, my aura etc).

Wins
20 units on Marin Cilic @2.00
10 units on Alun Jones @1.55
5 units on Yvonne Meusberger @2.05
4 units on the multi of Cilic(2.00), Baghdatis (1.30), Russell (1.35), Santoro (1.45) paying 5.09.

Losses
10 units Joe Sirianni
5 units Olivier Rochus
5 units Christina Wheeler
10 unit multi of Hewitt, Minar, Berdych, Verdasco
2 unit multi of all players mentioned on the mens draw.

The layout was 71 units
The return was 86.11 units
Total profit/loss is +15.11 units

Now for today. My tips that will probably not repeat yesterday's result are

20 units on Stanislas Wawrinka @$1.25
10 units on Rainer Schuettler @$2.40
20 units on multi of Richard Gasquet and Nikolay Davydenko @$1.35

10 units on Flavia Pennetta @$2.05

Don't expect the results of yesterday but it is all fun.

Good luck for everyone else having a bet on this great tournament.

Australian Open Day 2

jmf

If you want to make a charitable donation to the TAB, you will be pretty safe following these tips most likely. It is great to see other well respected figures on this forum dabble into other betting areas so I decided I will follow suit and take a dive into day 2 of the Australian Open. Whether or not it proves to be successful unlike other posts remain to be seen but I am offering odds of 1.04 that it won't but may as well anyway and see who else likes something in the tennis.

Anyway my outlay is.

20 units on Marin Cilic @$2.00
10 units on Joeseph Sirianni @2.50
5 units on Olivier Rochus @1.85
10 units on Alun Jones @1.55

10 units on the multi of Verdasco, Berdych, Hewitt and Minar
4 units on the multi of Cilic, Baghdatis, Russell, Santoro
2 units on the multi of Verdasco, Berdych, Hewitt, Minar, Cilic, Baghdatis, Jones, Rochus, Russell, Santoro, Sirianni.

As for the women a bit takes my fancy but not in a betting sense.

Offensive Words

jmf

If a monkey call is racist can anyone tell me words I should be on the lookout for because I quite clearly don't understand what could be racist or not? Some words include

Kangaroo
Koala
Wombat
Wallaby
Possum
Platypus

I'm thinking of demanding that the wallabies and kangaroos national football sides get their names changed because I find it extremely racist.

What is the big deal?

jmf

The Australian crickt team need to remember they are playing international cricket and not the local under 7's. Fair enough they have the skill that allows them to dominate cricket like an under 7 comp but cmon a bit of maturity please.

Seriously what is so bad about being called a monkey? If someone called me a monkey I would laugh at the fact that it is such a poor payout. Why did Symonds make a mountain out of a moundhill and to think he wasn't even involved in it at the start when it was only lee and Singh? I could think of a million worse comments that would seriously upset Symonds. It's like an Indian walking up to me in the street and calling me a Polar Bear. It's ridiculous and not even insulting.

It's strange when you remember that sledging and Australia have a connection. In Steve Waugh's biography or one of his diaries, he devotes two pages trying to explain that sledging should be allowed in cricket as it is a form of gaining a psychological benefit.

Need I not to mention some of the sledges many racial and far worse than a monkey call that many Australian cricketers have used on the opposition.

The Australian media has to stop trying to defend them as well. Like when Mcgrath got into the argument with Sarwan and everyone took Mcgrath's side because Sarwan used Mcgrath's wife who was suffering from cancer which sarwan did not know. I went with the media and many of my appears until it emerged that Mcgrath instigated it by saying what does lara's (you know what) taste like. To which Sarwan naturally replied your wife knows.
