The lightly raced colt Complacent continued his rapid rise to take out this Group One event after winning a Maiden Handicap (1400m) at Hawkesbury only three starts back on 12 September. He led early today, before easing to enjoy a perfect trip in third place on the rails to the 600m. He then got a split between runners rounding the home turn, took the lead at the 200m and went on to a comfortable win. He is a progressive colt who now looks likely to now head to Melbourne for next month’s Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m). Criterion travelled well in tenth place on the rails to the 600m point. He switched out on straightening, got to sixth at the 200m and continued to run on well for a very good second, running the 2000m out well. He too looks to have Derby claims. Savvy Nature ($3.20 fav) was ninth one off the rails to the 800m, improved wide to be sixth at the turn. He then kept running on fairly well in the straight, without really looking a winning threat, to take third. Hooked was a handy fourth to the turn, he challenged at the 250m and then battled on for a sound fourth, beaten a length and half. Drago was always well back and kept plugging on in the straight, making ground gradually for three and a half lengths seventh while Rock Hero was midfield on the rails to the 600m. He switched out at the 300m and plugged on fairly well for eighth, beaten just under four lengths. *ANZ
