Williams soaks up storm Experience in Queensland Sun

Earlier this week when trainer Ray Williams was speaking to east coast media, the names San Simeon and Pure Steel were mentioned to him.

It wasn't asking Ray Williams to compare Magnificent Storm to the champion West Australians of yesteryear, rather making him aware he has the chance to follow in their footsteps if he has a successful Queensland winter campaign.

He won't be an Inter Dominion champion or Hunter Cup winner like San Simeon or Pure Steel at the end of the campaign, but it might set him on the path to it as his career rolls on.

While Williams won't be thinking about that come Magnificent Storm's east coast debut on Saturday night, there's no doubt the WA star is one of the headline attractions at the Queensland Constellations.

Williams said the attention on his star pacer was flattering and hoped he could back it up on track.

"Everyone up here has been pretty good to us," Williams told The Trots WA.

"I've had a few different interviews with some of the media and there's been some attention on him.

"All the people at Luke's (McCarthy) stable have been fantastic to us as well.

"We've done a bit of talking, now he needs to walk the walk."

Magnificent Storm lines up in the Mr Feelgood Pace (2138m) at Albion Park on Saturday night, the first of his three Queensland assignments in the next month.

The six-year-old, who will be driven by Aiden De Campo, has drawn ideally on the inside of the back line for his Queensland debut and will follow out Big Wheels.

Williams said it was a perfect starting point for Magnificent Storm, who will also line up in the Sunshine Sprint and Blacks A Fake Queensland Championship during the Constellations.

"It's ideal for the horse and for Aiden on Saturday to get a good look around," he said.

"We went to Albion Park last Saturday and had a look around and it's a fantastic track.

"If he ran in the first three or four this week, I'd be really happy with that.

"But we always expect him to win and disappointed when he doesn't win."

Magnificent Storm is on the second line of betting with TABtouch at $4.40 for the $50,000 event, while star pacer Expensive Ego is the $2.35 favourite.

The Mr Feelgood also features Nullarbor runner Loyalist, who won the Redcliffe Gold Cup at his most recent start.

While the Group 3 event has attracted a strong field, it will most likely be overshadowed by the $350,000 Rising Sun (2138m), where boom pacer Leap To Fame is the $1.45 favourite with TABtouch.
