Storm team proud of Queensland campaign

Magnificent Storm’s owner Rob Tomlinson insists he still thinks his star pacer has what it takes to measure up with the nation’s best pacers, despite coming away from the recent Queensland Constellations without a win.

The six-year-old was unplaced in the Mr Feelgood (2138m), Sunshine Sprint (1660m) and Blacks A Fake (2680m) during his Queensland campaign.

It was the first time Tomlinson, along with trainer Ray Williams, travelled Magnificent Storm since he came to Perth more than three years ago.

Tomlinson said the results wouldn't deter him from travelling Magnificent Storm again.

"We were happy with him and thought he went pretty well," Tomlinson told The Trots WA.

"The flight to Melbourne probably took a little bit out of him and it was tough for Ray to keep on top of him after that.

"I think if he was in the form he was when he left Perth then he would have finished a lot closer to them.

"I don't think you can underestimate how much the first-up run took out of him over there as well.

"That lead time was very quick."

Magnificent Storm will remain at Luke McCarthy's Queensland stable until he's due to fly home to Perth on August 14.

Tomlinson said there was still a small chance Magnificent Storm could stay on the east coast with McCarthy.

"I have spoken to Luke about the possibility of taking him for the Victoria Cup," he said.

"That would need to be a joint decision I'd need to make with Ray and all the other owners.

"It would probably also need Luke to say that he's doing really well for us to even think about that."

Despite the likelihood of being back in Perth mid-August, Tomlinson said it was unlikely Magnificent Storm would be ready for November's $450,000 WA Pacing Cup (2536m) at Gloucester Park.

Williams and Tomlinson will be out to score a feature race win on their return to Perth with Cyclone Charlotte in Friday's Hoist Troque Restricted Winter Feature (2130m) at Gloucester Park.

Cyclone Charlotte proved far too strong for her rivals at her most recent start at Pinjarra earlier this month and has drawn awkwardly in barrier 12 on Friday.

Friday night's Gloucester Park card also sees the running of the $50,000 Retravision-Winter Cup (2536m), where last week's Free-For-All winner Galactic Star is engaged.
