The rail will be set out three metres around the entire course and at publish, we're faced with a track rated in the Good (4) range.

Check out my thoughts on every race below in my Canterbury preview.

RACE 1 - 12:10PM: James Squire Handicap (1550m)

Stand Aside takes winning form into this contest and can make it two in a row.

The Capitalist gelding turned in some fine performances during his debut without recording an elusive win, but he got the monkey off his back with a dominant fresh performance at Warwick Farm.

With natural improvement, this is the next logical target.

RACE 2 - 12:45PM: Hyland Race Colours Plate (1100m)

Several debutants are engaged in Race 2 at Canterbury on Wednesday, and they are prominent in betting after indicating ability at the trials.

I can't find anything that I am particularly confident in, and I am happy to stay out of this one from a betting perspective.

RACE 3 - 1:20PM: Robrick Lodge Handicap (1100m)

Private Life is another debutant at Canterbury this week, but I am keen to be with him.

The Written Tycoon colt had just one public trial prior to this race, but was very impressive here at Canterbury under James McDonald.

McDonald sticks in the saddle for this, and the horse does look to have a future.

RACE 4 - 1:55PM: Cylinder @ Darley Handicap (1550m)

Kings Valley takes improvement into his second campaign start and is primed to strike.

The Territories colt turned in some fine performances over in the UK during his debut prep, and he worked home well behind the likes of Little Jeannie here on debut in Australia.

He strips fitter for that and can use this race as a stepping stone into something stronger.

RACE 5 - 2:30PM: Ranvet Handicap (1250m)

I'm going to give Balkans one last chance at Canterbury on Wednesday.

He's turned in some competitive efforts back from a break, but Balkans has proven to be a bit of a headscratcher for us punters, often finding himself in the right position but not finding a way to win.

He was freshened into a near miss here a couple of weeks ago and with any improvement on that, he might not be offered a better opportunity to win.

RACE 6 - 3:10PM: Kia Ora Prague Handicap (1100m)

Queen Of The Mile is second-up and open to improvement.

The Written Tycoon filly turned in some nice performances last time in, winning first and second-up most notably, while she was good through the line to only just miss here when resuming.

She has drawn into this field wide, but several of her key rivals are first-up and will also need luck, and we can have an each way play on this girl at big odds ($12 at publish).

RACE 7 - 3:50PM: Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m)

Yankee One makes her return in a very winnable race at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The Snitzel filly made just two appearances at the races during her debut prep, breaking her maiden at Gosford before only just missing in BM64 company.

She's had the benefit of a couple of trials leading up to her return and this looks a nice kick-off point.

RACE 8 - 4:25PM: Exceedance @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1900m)

Yet He Moves looks the one to beat in the last.

Yet He Moves has proven to be a good horse for the Waller yard since debuting, and he returned to action to only just miss in BM72 company at Gosford.

I like that he has been back to the trials since that effort and under the urgings of James McDonald, this race looks ideal.
