Weekend wrap: Clarken & MacGillivray treble, Wong claims Montgomerie/Forrest Series

It was a weekend where the weather proved bigger than racing with Saturday’s Murray Bridge meeting and the big Magic Millions race day of the Gold Coast postponed after two races.

But that didn't stop Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray enhancing their impressive strike-rate with their boutique stable at Strathalbyn on Sunday.

Dunmaghlas got things rolling justifying his short quote to win at his second race track appearance before Storm Hunter turned around a disappointing last start to score with Ryan Hurdle in the saddle.

Malinong Club making it three for one of South Australian racing' most astute stables powering home second-up from a spell with Lachlan Neindorf in the saddle to give him two winners for the day and share riding honours with Sophie Logan.

Logan won the opening race of the day aboard local galloper Famous Prince who broke his maiden status at start number 13 for Shane and Cassie Oxlade and she followed up one race later when David Jolly's Whenthedeelingsdun backed-up a big effort at his previous start to win his maiden by 4.7 lengths.

Jacob Opperman claiming the fourth and final heat of the Montgomerie/Forrest Apprentice Series aboard Marvelous Night for the Heather Lehmann stable, but it wasn't enough to catch Ellis Wong who capped a big January by winning the 2022-23 Series.

Apprentice Rochelle Miles landed another riding double at the Lock non-TAB meeting on Friday winning with Another Bit and Goodarchie for Simon Drewitt.

The Port Lincoln trainer also in the winners stall at Oakbank last Wednesday with Sir Grumpy successful.

And Mount Gambier trainer Lee Creek claimed last Thursday's Coonawarra Vignerons Cup and the second heat of the Limestone Coast Cup Series with Wild Willy.
