Canterbury Race 1- Les Vampires

The market support here was telling, backed into $1.55 off the back of some impressive trial form but it wasn't to be for the G Waterhouse & A Bott debutant. The son of Pierro was slowly away from the inside barrier and was really given a dig to hunt up and find the front, leading at a solid clip. Having been ridden vigorously to find the top he then got keen with two horses outside him and raced very greenly in the straight, wandering out under pressure while the horses back in the field had the better runs in the race. He's still run to 92 with Timeform on debut and looks every bit a coming winner next time out.

Sandown-Hillside Race 4- Refreshing

A tricky one to really follow because this filly has made a habit of being slowly away and flashing home and that was on display more than ever here, missing the start by some four lengths, getting home hard in between runners and just missing. Despite the bunched finish, the race has actually rated okay, running a basically identical time to the older Bm70 over the same distance on the day and a couple of lengths faster than the boys one race later. Last start, Refreshing was able to jump cleanly and banged up on speed which (naturally) saw her win. She might be one to keep an eye on for in-play betting if so inclined, but there's no denying she's got talent when she's on.
