A SUPER SATURDAY

It was forecast on paper as one of the best racing days of the year and it proved to be just that with some stunning performances in Melbourne and Sydney.

Caulfield held three Group 1s, whilst Randwick was headlined by the Everest, with the King Charles, the Kosciuzko and the Silver Eagle a nice undercard.

The Caulfield Guineas was a blowout with Griff leading all the way to win with a $47.70 BSP!

Alligator Blood was outstanding in the Might and Power, claiming his seventh Group 1 in devastating fashion.

The day would end with another upset, this time in the Toorak Handicap with Amelia's Jewel going under as Attrition got it done at a big price.

Think About it was outstanding in the Everest at Randwick, winning his 11th race in 12 starts to claim the $20 million feature.

Fan Girl won the King Charles III for the dominant pairing of Waller/McDonald, edging out the best backed runner of the entire day Mr Brightside.

The action continued into the evening with five Group 1s at the Harness meeting in Melton, headlined by the Victoria Cup.

Emma Stewart won three of those five group 1s including the Cup with Act Now scoring at a remarkable BSP of $154.10!

We'll wrap all the highs and lows on a massive day.

BEST BACKED WINNERS

The volume for Think About It in the Everest was the highest of the day given the total matched on the entire race exceeded a whopping $1.5 million.

Nearly $500,000 of that went the way of the eventual winner in a huge betting race.

He maintained favouritism and after a slight drift in the morning he would firm back into $4.63.

The best backed winner of the day in terms of market percentage was Asfoora in the Schillaci.

The Henry Dwyer runner held over 70% of the sizeable Race 5 market.

Mr Brightside took the highest volume of the day but didn't win, losing narrowly to Fangirl in the King Charles III.

FIRMERS AND DRIFTERS

The day saw the best successful firm of the carnival so far with a huge push for a runner at Randwick paying off.

In the Sydney Stakes I am Me shortened from $6.60 into $2.60 over the last 15 minutes before winning, which represents a big go.

Nearly half a million was matched on the race so it would have taken a bit of volume to shift that much.

Osamu was a good firm at Eagle Farm in Race 8, from $6.20 into $3.80 before winning.

Carini was a successful drift at Caulfield in the Herbert Power, easing from $2.16 to $2.76 before running unplaced.

Uncommon James was similar in the Schillaci, easing from $2.44 to $3.25 before running second to Asfoora who had all the money.

Some unsuccessful firms included Fun Forever at Morphettville who was $7.80 into $4.30 but ran unplaced, and Boomroux at Eagle Farm was $3.05 into $2.08 before an unlucky third.

$760 POP SALUTES!

The Herbert Power saw both Carini and the United Nations trade at under $2 in the run before both went down to Military Mission (who was tipped by Tom Haylock on Lay Back with Betfair).

However the standout result of the day by far came in the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield.

Attrition hit a staggering $760 in the run before storming back to defeat Antino who had traded as low as $1.02 at the same stage of the race.

All of that on top of the short priced pre-race fav Amelia's Jewel going down.

In the Trots we had a $1.01 pop go down at Menangle in-play with War Dan Buddy losing the unloseable, whilst at Globe Derby Major Mad's price ballooned out to $280 before he saluted.

PRICE ADVANTAGE

We will start at Melton in the Victoria Cup where Act Now's astonishing upset came at a huge price on the Exchange.

Act Now's BSP was $154.10 which dwarfed the Best Tote price by 97% ($78.80).

If you put $10 on the winner you'd be $750 better off!

At Caulfield the day started well with Maktoob's $9.20 win 19.5% better than the best tote, with Sheva (16%) and Military Mission (22.3%) continuing the trend.

Alligator Blood's stunner came at a 25.3% better price, Asfoora produced 14% and Wishlor Lass 17%.

The pick of the day at Caulfield came in the Guineas with Griff's (pictured) big price of $47.70 coming in 29.3% better than Best Tote.

This equated to $105 more for a $10 outlay.

In Sydney we had Raf Attack win the Gloaming (32.3%), Think About It still produced a 21.8% advantage in the Everest and Renaissance Woman was 17.2% better in the last.

A more than honorable mention goes to Jenkins at Morphettville who's win at $30.20 more than doubled the Best Tote price. That's right a staggering 116%!
