Morphettville Races Review on 27th January 2024

The nine-year-old gelding Canford put in a good trial for the Adelaide Cup which is seven weeks away when he took out the opening event of 2500 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.


Guided to victory by apprentice Alana Livesey the Ryan Balfour prepared Canford raced away from his opposition late in the straight.

Apprentice Jacob Opperman continued his good run when he guided Magnetic Edge to a win in the 1600 metre second race.

Jointly prepared at Murray Bridge by John Hickmott and Carina Riggs Magnetic Edge came from a midfield position to record a close win.

Coming off a last start second Russian Dancer went one better when he took out the 1800 metre third race.

Giving Lachlan Neindorf his third winner in twenty-four hours Russian Dancer came from a midfield position to get to the lead 200 metres from the post.

Apprentice Rochelle Milnes landed her first Morphettville win when her mount I'm a Dexstar won the 1500 metre fourth race.

Trained at Port Lincoln by Byron J Cozamanis I'm a Dexstar came from a better than midfield position to win.

Jacob Opperman made it a double when Kalasec won the 1800 metre fifth race.

Coming out of the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable Kalasec came from well back with a late run to meet with success.

Murray Bridge trainer Kirsty Evans was well pleased with the win of Costless in  the 1200 metre sixth race.

Having the services of Stacy Metcalfe Costless dispensed with his opposition by leading all the way.

Racing first up after a spell Ballon D'Or took out the 1050 metre seventh race.

Coming out of the Murray Bridge stable of Will Clarken and Niki O'Shea the Todd Pannell guided Ballon D'Or came from a midfield position with a strong run over the concluding stages.

Apprentice Alana Livesey brought up her second win for the day when she rode Storm Voyager to a win in the 1050 metre eighth race.

Prepared by Darryl Carrison at Morphettville Storm Voyager returned to the winner's list after over 400 days.  The mare came from a midfield position to win in a blanket finish.

Richard and Chantelle Jolly landed their second winner for the day when Aitch Two Oh took out the listed Durbridge Stakes which was run over 1100 metres.

Resuming from a spell and having the services of the stables' number one jockey Jake Toeroek Aitch Two Oh led all the way.

Trainer Justin Pickering continued his good run when his charge Just Like Lisa took out the final event of 1600 metres.

A $4,000 on line purchase and having the services of Margaret Collette Just Like Lisa came with a long sustained run to win.
