Carlton's Jesse Motlop is the latest player to be suspended for a dangerous tackle, with the forward handed a one-match ban for the slinging manoeuvre.

Motlop wrapped up Dougal Howard's arms and slung the St Kilda defender to the ground during Carlton's 22-point defeat on Sunday.

The incident was assessed as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact, drawing a one-match ban.

Motlop is the eighth player in the past five rounds to be cited for a dangerous tackle, with the AFL cracking down on any tackles that put the head in danger.

GWS midfielder Callan Ward was also handed a one-match ban over the weekend for a dangerous tackle.

The crackdown has led to some coaches instructing their players against slamming or slinging a player to the ground in a tackle.
