suspicious betting Darwin??

larch

Just watched the race 1 in Darwin where the favourite and a 10/1 pop were raced by the the same trainer. Kalmar, had been beaten by 19 and 20 l at its last wo starts and Sportbet had it around 10/1. In the final few moments it was backed into 4.4. it led and won easily.

The Fav, Kowloon Kid had won its past two. It hovered around 3.5 fav and in the last few minutes blew to 4.4/.  It missed the start and never figured in the race.   Makes me wonder. I would hope the stewards look into this .

betting or not betting

larch

I sometimes have to wonder why I have a punt. Have a look at race one at Gawler today. I backed Old Cobber and it did not run a place. Justin Potter put in one of the worst rides I have seen for a long time on a favourite .  I know the jockey can be the biggest variable in a race but you have to wonder sometimes

Winx and the All Star Mile

larch

Without going into the many issues I have with the concept, I am still amazed to hear VRC's Carpenter stating that they will be offering Winx a wild card.
Whilst it may lift the quality of the race, it is a fair kick in the pants for any pre post punters.

She was not nominated and punters have placed prepost bets without a Winx in the field. I would be annoyed to say the least if I thought I got a BARGAIN OF 5/1 ON Alizee to find that Winx has been added to the field.

Bookies are in for a bonanza. Layed the field at incredibly short odds and Joe Punter only finds out Winx is in the field at the last minute. This is not on?? I know there is a risk in pre post betting but that relates to your horse not running, not the addition of a wild card (never actually in the nominations).

Weir charges

larch

One of the biggest racing stories for a long time and not a comment on the forum.
I have to wonder how many of the Weir staff will end up implicated in this saga. One has to assume that many staff were involved in the use of the jiggers and jockeys had to have known of the training method. As yet no-one appears to be talking but that may be why the charges of refusing to co-operate with stewards may have been laid.

Weir Scratchings

Had to laugh at one of the first Weir scratchings at Moonee Valley. Indiscretion is its name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Video quality -Sportsbet

larch

I currently watch Melb races via the Sportsbet site. Recently the quality of the feed has been poor and there is constant buffering. Everything was Ok until about a week ago.
Has anyone else had any problems???

NEDS

larch

Tried the new bookmaker (the 500 bonus helped) but it does not work. The website has crashed for most of today so far. The help line just doesn't answer.
Any one else have problems.

Protest placings

larch

There was a race the other day with two protests:: 2nd v 1st and 5th v 2nd.

2nd v 1st was upheld so the placings were reversed( ie the original winner was placed behind the original runner up.)

5th v 2nd was dismissed.

My question is
What would the final placing have been if 5th v 2nd had also been upheld.

Would the original 2nd have been placed behind the 5th horse (leaving the original winner again at the head of the placings)

Caulfield Cup times

larch

Not sure about others ,but I think the times for Caulfield Cup day are atrocious. First race not till 12.50 and then the last at well after 6.00.The cup itself is not on until nearly 6. Too many races and too late a finish

Where's the Cleaner

larch

I am a fan of the Cleaner and the trainer has done a remarkable job, but I have to wonder what's going on at the moment.

Mick or the owners seem to have placed all eggs in one basket and its a very difficult basket to fill.

The Cleaner won't run again until the Cox Plate. I would have thought the Turnbull today was an easy assignment with the Cox Plate on in 3 weeks.

The Cleaner will miss out on today and I would have to wonder whether he will be rock hard fit for the Cox Plate (and he will need to be).
