Japan off the radar

oldhand

Its a real pity that Pinkline Jones seems to have left this forum, he used to be keen on Japan Racing and always posted on the big races held there.
On Sunday they had the Tenno Sho, one of the big group one races in Japan and not one thing that I can see posted on Racing and Sports. The race won by Fenomeno in a trot. If this horse ever ventures to Australia you won't find a horse here to beat him in my opinion. Japan is now heading quickly towards dominence in world racing, Blind Charlie and his lead dog can see this but apparently not Racing and Sports which in my opinion has gone backwards since the new format began. This used to be a great site but unfortunately is now lost its way.

Punter Ponting

Have a happy retirement Punter and thanks for memories; you have been a great captain all these years for Australia.
Like all champions you stood tall in defeat as well as in victory like the man you are, leading by example and making us all proud to call ourselves Australian.
To his knockers, just look at his record and go suck eggs!

The Prime Minister is reported to be the most important man in Australia but personally I think he plays second fiddle to the Australian cricket captain.
Craig Williams rode four winners in Japan on Sunday including the main race of the day the Epsom Cup on Tosen Reve to continue his successful stint this trip.
selections if interested.

For mine
1.Tosen Homareboshi
2. Gold Ship
3. Grandezza

Best of luck
Any thoughts on the running of this race yesterday.

Unfortunately one of the two horses that lost their lives was this years Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Synchronised, trained by Jonjo O'Neil who himself as a jockey was riding Alverton in the early 80's also losing him this way after winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup in the same year.
Would have brought back sad memories for Jonjo and Peter Easterby, Alvertons trainer.

Alverton also a horse like Synchronised yet to show his true greatness.

Everything and everyone is being blamed, jump height being reduced, The RAC and protesters for forcing the issue, size of the field!
the latter being in my opinion one very good point I think but no matter what is done there will still be fallers and casulties.

At least reduce the size of the field to 24 or 25, give horses a sight of the jump, its near impossible with the charge of the light brigade with 30 odd horses and jockeys all attempting a good position at the early jumps.

The race is a tradition so I would hate to see it banned; just use some common sense.

Understatement of the year

oldhand

On TV.

Frenchman Christophe Lemaire paid tribute to Craig Williams following his win aboard Dunaden in Tuesday’s Group I Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington.
Lemaire said he felt for Williams, who he described as a "friend”, but acknowledged the highs and lows associated with being a jockey.

"Yes of course (I feel for Craig), but you know it is part of our job and I’m very sorry for him, he is a good friend of mine,” Lemaire said.

"I think today he must be under the ground, this is life and I have to thank to the team.”

"He must be devastated."

Craig Williams

oldhand

I have read where Craig rode his last winner in the Cup carnival 40 or so rides back when he saluted on Miss Finland.
Is that an omen would you think! will he ride a brace at Caulfield 1000 guineas day.
Think I may have a few dollars on each of his rides.

Christophe Soumillon

oldhand

This guy is without doubt one of the best flat jockeys riding on the world stage of racing having been champion jockey in France for several years and a big hit with punters where ever he rides, I guess he would be France's version of Englands Frankie Dettori with his flair and ego.

Is there no end to this guys versatality for he has just ridden the winner of the French champion hurdle group one at only his second ride over jumps.
It was reported also that he occasionally drives trotters as well.

Craig Williams

oldhand

Craig Williams starts well in Japan.

On Saturday at the Kyoto track Craig quickly hit his straps on his months contract with one winner from six rides.
Today at Kyoto however his luck was really riding high with two winners two seconds and a third placing from six rides, including today's feature race the Tenno Sho group one on Jaguar Mail by a nose.
