Two $3m-plus mares headlined this year's Chairman's Sale, which was conducted by Inglis on Thursday night, but the good results went beyond the top lots.

The 83-lot catalogue realised a record average of $622,946, which was up 12 percent on last year's record figure of $554,383.

In total, $34,885,000 changed hands, which was a tick over $10 million less than last year but there were 18 more horses offered in 2023.

"There were some extraordinary results here tonight, some of the best fillies and mares to be offered all year were here at Riverside and achieved some stunning results which was fantastic to be a part of,'' Inglis Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch said.

"To have nine lots sell for $1m or more was really cool and thoroughly deserving for those who supported the sale with quality stock.

"The atmosphere in the auditorium was captivating, everybody was dressed up and in the mood for fun, it's such a unique evening and a special occasion which so many people enjoy.

"To an extent, the sale has become a victim of its own success in that marrying the expectations of vendors and buyers together was a challenge on certain lots, but all things considered, we are very pleased with the sale and grateful for the continued support of our vendors."

Dual Group 1 winner She's Extreme, a daughter of Extreme Choice, topped the sale when knocked down to Coolmore's Tom Magnier for $3.4m.

Magnier was the underbidder on the night's second top lot, The Autumn Sun three-year-old Tutta La Vita, who sold for $3.2m.

Other high-achievers were Kimochi ($2.2m), C'est Magique ($1.7m), Pennyweka ($1.6m) and Autumn Ballet ($1.6m).

C'est Magique and Autumn Ballet were also bought by Magnier, who end up the sale's leading buyer after spending $6.7m.

Newgate, which sold She's Extreme, was leading vendor with 16 lots selling for an aggregate of $11,795,000, while Sledmere Stud ed the averages for those who sold multiple lots with their two lots selling at an average of $1,087,500.
