Thoroughbred meetings in Australia today are held at Ballarat, the Sunshine Coast, Hobart, Casterton, Parkes, Queanbeyan and Albany.

PARKES: RACE 1 @ 12:05PM:

IDA'S RULES (2) is unlucky to still be a maiden with three consecutive runner-up finishes to start the career and strikes a very winnable contest here. Two of those placings have come over this sprint journey and gets the services of Heywood in the saddle. Hard to see her getting beat. Behind her though, a very open race. VENATIC (7) has placed two of three this campaign and gets some weight relief with the claim. In the mix. OUTBACK PAT (11) ran on well at Dubbo last start at big odds and can put himself into exotics with a similar effort.

SELECTIONS: Ida's Rules to get the job done.

HOBART: RACE 5 @ 1:30PM:

SHIM (4) has been slow out in both runs this campaign, able to navigate a passage to win first-up but having no such luck last time out. She's only lightly raced and looks a horse on the up. I'M KRUPT (3) enjoyed the run of the race resuming and was only nabbed late after hitting the front early in the straight. He may push forward from out wide in a race lacking a heap of obvious speed. VOLKANOVSKI (1) was unlucky in defeat last time he raced in Hobart. He has blinkers on the quick back-up after an unplaced run where he was caught wide without cover. MILLA'S READY (6) wasn't pushed out in a recent Hobart trial. She generally doesn't have a lot of tactical speed so her race may be determined by how close she can settle from barrier 1. GEE GEE CHORIS (5) hasn't had a lot of luck with barrier draws but has drawn well here and did win from a low marble in Launceston on Good Friday.

SELECTIONS: Shim each way.

QUEANBEYAN: RACE 6 @ 3:40PM:

JIMMY MANOLO (3) is Sydney-trained and won the 58 as expected at Nowra. He got too far back the start after and prepared to forgive. Has some weight relief and this is a suitable assignment. THE MEDIATOR (2) was better at Gundagai before walloping a CL2 field at Wellington by almost 3L. The speedy galloper will skip across and just has to see out the mile. RED HOT SASS (6) is a local presenting off a Maiden win. She's on the improve and gives every indication the longer trip will suit. GO GAZZA (1) has a 3kg claim and is better suited today. His best is good enough.

SELECTIONS: Backing Jimmy Manolo.

ALBANY: RACE 6 @ 3:50PM:

AVOIDANCE (2) has won both his starts since joining the Roy Rogers stable and escaping from City class fields. He is now living up to his earlier promise and should complete the hat-trick of wins here. KOHLI (1) finished second here fresh up before a fair effort for fourth in a better field at Pinjarra last start. He will be peaking third up and has not missed a cheque in five starts on this track. He is the main danger to the top selection. CABLE BOY (7) saves his best for this track and is very versatile. He usually gets back early but if the tempo is on and the breaks come his way then he could have the last say. Include in all multiples. BLUE LINE (3) is another with strong track stats and he was back in winning form here last start. He only has to cope with the three kilo weight rise to be a threat again. Watch closely.

SELECTIONS: Avoidance to win.

CASTERTON: RACE 8 @ 4:10PM:

BOLD BOURBON (6) has won his last two by spaces on heavy tracks. He will push forward and drops stacks in weight. A dryer track shouldn't bother and he can go right on with it. CORMORANT (4) is a Group performer with plenty up the sleeve. He can fire third-up and is a live hope if he does. LITERATI (11) will be better for the two runs this preparation and Linda sticks and will have him on-pace. He's some chance along with FAROOQ (1) who won the Listed Premier's Plate in Adelaide before being outgraded there in a Group 3. Just a run in the Stawell Open after, but he draws to advantage and a bounce is likely.

SELECTIONS: Bold Bourbon appeals.

BALLARAT: RACE 8 @ 4:30PM:

NOTES (8) ran on strongly after getting held up when resuming at Warrnambool. That was his first run after a decent spell and he will be much sharper today for that effort, in fact, both his career wins have come second up and he has also won his only start on this track. Hard to beat. HEARTS AND MINDS (7) is better known over more ground but he does have winning form fresh up and he has been tuned up for his return with a recent trial. Both his wins have come on wet tracks and he is worthy of serious consideration. AMEGDUL (1) was back in grade last start and he immediately found some form again with a brave effort for second after running on strongly from well back. He faces a similar field and if the breaks come his way then he is capable of going one better. Stick with him. RED RED WINE (6) should have finished closer last start and should now be at his peak fitness after three runs back from a spell. He is poised to put his hoof in the till. Each-way.

SELECTIONS: Notes to win
