Sandown Lakeside Race 2- Autumn Angel

This was a powerful win by what looks a smart staying filly on the up. A daughter of The Autumn Sun, Autumn Angel debuted nicely at Cranbourne and was tipped out but relished a solid tempo up front to come from midfield and score by nearly 2 lengths on the line. This is the time of year when we start seeing potential Derby & Oaks horses in these metro maidens and she profiles as one who will be put on a path to some of the Oaks lead ups to see where she measures up.

Randwick Kensington Race 1- Makarena

The winner, Nadal, took all the honours with a big closing win but I thought the run of Makarena was very good in second. As the day went on it became apparent that the inside wasn't the place to be and while that may not have been as significant early on, Makarena made very solid ground along the rails while the winner came wider. Her last 100m to grab second was good and she might be a bit of a hidden run with the pattern of the day against. No shock to see her win a similar race next time out.
