My Trifectas

badge4au

Wild and windy conditions has me house bound, so I,ve decided to have a crack at the Golden Slipper ratings.

Firstly let me say, I have already had Early Bird bets on Real Saga and Manhattan Rain so to bet again on a very wet track would be a little silly.

After originally having Real Saga and More Joyous rated 4.5kgs and 5kgs respectfully ahead of Manhattan Rain and Indian Ocean, I've now finalised my Slipper ratings for a "slow" track.

Any bog track will make a juvenile race hard to decipher.

And with very little to go by in the way of wet track form, it's not surprising to see they still rate ahead, but only just.

I also took into consideration the breeding of the top chances, deciding to leave the lower rated horses out of this because of the huge difference in original ratings.

I know it won't make any difference to anyones decision making when it comes to chosing their Slipper fancy, so I'm putting them up as odds so that they can be scrutinised and torn apart by whoever wants to. And please feel free to do so.

Real Saga......... 5/2
More Joyous....... 3/1
Manhattan Rain.... 7/2
Indian Ocean...... 7/2
Headway.......... 15/1
Rostova.......... 15/1
Phelan Ready..... 15/1

These would be the odds I needed to back them.

With Manhattan Rain at 10/1 and Indian Ocean at 25/1 on Unitab, they would be the two I would be looking at, Phelan Ready and Headway both 30/1 next. So I might have a trifecta or two with the top 7 mentioned.

I tried to compact the ratings to fit some other runners into the mix, but they rated too far behind in the first place. So the odds didn't change much.

My first post on ratings or prices for a particular race. Could be my last.

Go for it.

V.Duric

IMO, he is riding as good as anyone in the country at the moment. I might be talking out of my pocket, but he just seems to have the ability to put his mount in a winning position better than most.

What a pity we are losing him to Hong Kong ( I think its HK )He said in an interview on TVN he wasnt getting too many rides when he applied for HK, but now seems to be kicking goals on a daily basis.

I'd have him aboard anytime.

Domino effect

Race 3 at Rosehill today. Withoutme comes out and pushes Shatters onto Montelimar who falls.
Ellehro and Razz and Red come down over the top. Domino effect.

Two jockeys, ( B. Shinn and P.Robl taken to hospital, J.Lloyd sore and sorry ) 3 horses injured. ( Montelimar looked aweful ) rider changes galore. Jockeys missing rides and therefore pay day is knocked around. Domino effect.

Hugh Bowman manages a smile at the post race interview. The domino effect should be like a tidal wave when it hits Mr Bowman. What a bluddy cowboy.

Disgraceful.

Kathy O'Hara also fell in race 2 and missed her ride on Zaretti. Domino effect again.

Raided

OH CLARE.

What a good feel story that was. And she gets to ride a light weight for Bart in the cup.

Love to see her win the cup too.

And just a couple more Raiders won.

8 sydney horses won. 4 Quinellas. And a trifecta.

About time, big day.

Cheers.

Pinotage

If you get a chance, have a look at the replay of Canterbury Race 3.

The Astronomer was a big run and Bossy said it was a group horse on that effort.

But have a look at Pinotage in the running. Was sitting pretty behind the leader when Dye took off on Por Favor and the entire field took off around him and was left with no where to go but back to last ( couldnt sprint maybe, but ). Brown pulled him out in the straight and he finished on very very well.

First start, some wont like him because he is an Octagonal, and will certainly be breaking its maiden status soon. Probably over 1400m +

Did anyone else notice the run?

Cheers.

THOSE LITTLE GUYS WON

badge4au

Someone said once that some 2YO owners were greedy.

Better to be greedy than poor.

If Sebring didnt race as a 2YO, the owners would have paid $13,000 each, plus 10% of the monthly training, vets, farriers and spelling fees, without a brass razzoo in return.

But, they did race him and pocketed over $2.5 million in purses, plus $30 Million from Widden Stud.

Thats over $3 million each for the LITTLE GUYS.

Surely if you pay the money for a horse you should be able to at least try to win some back. Isnt that what its all about? Even on the punt, you want the jockey to ride your horse out to the finish in the hope of a return on your investment ( within reason ). Or is it the thrill of losing that excites people? And if you deposit your superannuation into a particular fund, isnt it to earn money ?

If Sebring never races again, he will stand at the beautiful Widden Stud for the rest of his life being treated like a king. Not to mention the odd hand maiden to keep him busy. All that after a frightfully hard career of oh, only 7 race starts.

If that is being greedy then good luck to them all.

Cant wait for the backlash.

Best 3yo to date.

Weekend Hussler and Light Fantastic are very good ex 3yos, so what is on the horizon in YOUR opinion for the best 3yos this season.

I know Duporth won again and did everything right, but I think Desuetude is the better horse.

As for the fillies, Samantha Miss and Portillo seem to me to be headed for some big time clashes, ( if Portillo didnt suffer too much from last weeks Tim Clark effort ).

In Melbourne there seems to be an even spread but for the fillies, with Sugar Babe in my opinion, as honest as the day is long.

Minnesota Shark, Fravashi, Skytrain.....?????

Your turn.

K McEvoy

badge4au

Peter Snowden has done an amazing job as head trainer for "the sheik".

Now all he has to do is send McEvoy back to the barrier trials until he catches up with the rest of the jockeys in Australia.

Learning to jump a horse from the barrier would be a good start. And yes I am talking from my pocket, unfortunately.

Corey Brown, Danny Nikolic, Rod Quinn etc must be laughing at his performances to date.

I hope he turns it around soon, so does my bank balance.
