The Mile looks a competitive race with queries around a few coming back in distance. Like the look of DIADEME here at $9+. Ran out of puff second up after a long spell with hoof problems, ready to peak here and take her first G1. Wide draw but is a fast beginner iirc and should get the run of the race. Long time since she's carried 55kgs.

Wellington Cup's a mediocre affair. DECORAH's a roughies hope at $14+. A little underdone last time but beat Delveen home and she'd thumped Graphic the week before. GRAPHIC very hard to beat getting out to 2400 and dropping 5kgs in weight. Very good chance of a repeat of last year's win.
For anyone dabbling midweek - two (three) to keep an eye on at Gawler tomorrow.

R7 No 1 Geordie's Second - $4 (Australia Day - $6)
http://www.theracessa.com.au/show_video.php?track=30072&date=2014-11-14&race=9&trial=yes

R8 No 6 Hostable - $6
http://www.theracessa.com.au/show_video.php?track=30072&date=2014-11-14&race=7&trial=yes

All 3 trialled well. GS led with Australia Day (a rival tomorrow) on his back but wasn't asked for much over the last 100m. Australia Day (Sebring-Helluva Party) should be winning on form but appears to find a few better each time and may have problems? 4x445x4x4x. Has form around Kushadashi, Weinholt and, wait for it, Trust In a Gust (lol).

Hostable showed his rivals a clean pair of heels and will be in front for a long way.

A Dual Dual Champion

geelong63

For those who missed the news Australia has another World Champion, but not just "a common garden variety" one.

Jessica Fox is now a dual/dual WC, holding both the U23 and open women's titles in C1 and K1 canoeing/kayaking slalom - the very first time one woman has taken both open events. Jessica is coached by her mum and comes from good canoeing stock - both parents were champions in the sport apparently.

Patsy's tipped us the, er, Japanese frontrunner Bande 56.5kg and his fellow "countryman" Admire Ratki finds himself topweight on 58kgs. Feel free to add your thoughts, info, crystal ball gazes or tarot tips - anything related to this year's 154th renewal which will undoubtedly be yet another great race.

Another Aussie World Champ

geelong63

This time we dips our lids to WA "maniac" Josh Sheehan in that crazy, seriously dangerous sport of freestyle MX.

Anna's back!

geelong63

More accurately her glutes I guess. If you haven't seen her box jumping in the leadup to her successful London Olympics foray take a gander here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJHvu_hC9rg

I'm talking of course about coalminer's daughter the fabulous Anna Meares, who put them to the sword again last night in the 500m sprint, cracking the Comm record in the process. What an athlete.

RIP Football

geelong63

SOO 2 may have been a complete dud, ruined by players and referees but it paled in comparison to the Richmond-Sydney game tonight. And there have been far too many "tonights" already this season.

My question to the AFL is this - why have 3 umpires on the field when they either don't know the rules of the game or aren't prepared to enforce them?

The umpiring department has a lot to answer for. A once great game is being brought to its knees by umpires with no understanding of what makes the game great. So many blatant free kicks overlooked (I'm not including ones they miss, or the technical ones they allow to go in the contest, just the half-century obvious ones they overlook every week). Throwing the ball, incorrect disposal, the now ludicrous holding the ball in rule, the incessant mauls not being blown up, the head high tackles, the tackling without the ball. It's open slather.

36 adults scragging each other for two hours might be acceptable at Labor branch meetings but it just won't do for the greatest football game on Earth. Fix it Wayne Campbell, or move aside for the good of the game.
Sadly, only via the marvels of the digital revolution. Belfast boy and Aussie rock legend Doc Neeson, dead from a brain tumour aged 67.

You know the response lads and lasses, and I'm sure the moderator will turn a blind eye given the circumstances.

No shadow boxer, it won't take a long line to tell you that Doc kept no secrets from us. Sorry we can't all be with you at the sendoff but we'll fire up the hifis, crank up the sound and listen to you belt out your best instead.

Vale Doc, you gave us plenty of good music and memories.

Indigenous Round

geelong63

Another celebration of the indigenous contribution to the greatest football game on earth coming up. Some great jersey/guernsey/jumper designs although Port and Carlton don't seem to have spent a whole lot of time on theirs. Some fantastic talent there.

Bob and The Man

geelong63

Can't let the moment pass without comment. Vale Bob Hoysted, trainer of one of the greatest sprinters to have graced our turf. If there's a a thoroughbred heaven Bob will be joining his much loved mate Manikato there. Thanks for the memories Bob.
